Does a QR upgrade Y to j or J to f actually exist?

I have been trying to upgrade people using QR points for a while now
in jan feb mar someone silver Y to J and recently myself J to F but have never ever seen a seat
do they actually exist long haul?
any positive remarks?
any way to make it happen?

There needs to be award availability for that to happen, more likely in less busy periods.

They do release last minute award seats if they still have space but you need to be quick, last time they released a seat 12 hours prior but it was snapped up within 30s.

One other option is to ask for an Avios or Qcredit upgrade on departure and they can convert a revenue seat for you. If you’re transiting in Doha that can also be done at a desk near the C gates.

I can't comment directly and I'm not overly familiar with how QR does upgrades. However, flying LHR-DOH-PER I was upgraded for free from J to F for the DOH to PER sector. At the LHR I was advised this might be on the cards and to check in DOH. The impression I got was J was full but they wanted to process Y to J upgrade requests. F has space. So they bumped a few J folks to F to make the room.

Not sure of my QF WP helped or the fact my J ticket was only booked two weeks prior to travel so probably a high fare bucket that got my the op-up.

We were flying DOH-AMM last month and got a free gate upgrade. We were flying on a Velocity economy redemption ticket. One of us was Qantas WP and the boarding pass said this.

Basically, there is an upgrade counter where you can pay for an upgrade. Ofcourse, it was expensive (650 USD?).

But then, they told me to not board and just hang around for 30 mins. And then gave us new boarding passes.

Same, can confirm Qcredit upgrades work immediately, snagged one BNE-DOH-ATH for Y to J in 2022 after seeing reward availability. Haven't tried Qpoints upgrades either.
