Well an interesting discussion.
I' really failing to see how a 3 hour flight or a 4 hour flight would be considered long haul. Certainly neither flights are 9 hours. And the thing that seems to be missed is how 2 separate flights can be confused with 1 flight. Should we call Brisbane to Melbourne to Perth long haul as well?

But onto geography. There are 2 geographical regions to consider Oceania including Australia and the Cook Islands.
Then there is Australasia! My favourite. Australasia sits on the Indo-Australian plate.

In any case, An airline is actually allowed to define their program to suit their business. In this case Virgin seems to be very consistent in determining short haul and long haul based on flying times. I'm not sure how short haul is relevant considering the OP booked a long haul flight and seems set to get more points than would result from the points per $ system.

Some people just seem to be better off flying with someone else. Just sayin'!

Let's put International Short Haul Definition to bed. Any issues should be reported to Velocity / Virgin. Though I'm sure this was in another post in which OzStamps queried international travel.
