Does Platinum help with Jetstar flight SNAFU's?

P1. I was booked BNE-MEL mid-last year. Got a text as I traveled to the airport from QF that the flight was delayed by a couple of hours. My phone rang 5 minutes later. VIP team proactively offering alternatives. They booked me on an earlier flight which I could still arrive in time for.
you were booked JQ BNE-MEL and VIP did this? really? QF flight number or JQ?

interesting.

QF Plats don't fly Jetstar much! My mom hates them
I suspect your answer is in there somewhere 👍

high value customers

I'm sorry to say, Platinum (WP) customers are not as high a value in the airline's eyes. I think WP are a dime a dozen. WP is the new Bronze (NB)

I once booked a cheap one, and when they undercut the price later I canceled for a voucher, and then used the voucher to buy the cheaper flight

Voucher with no strings attached?. A "credit" usually comes with an inability to buy a cheaper flight.

The conversation has wandered away from the headline a bit.

It was a QF flight on 2 November. But, still, extraordinary service IMO.
no, you've lost the point of the conversation I think, and your experience is not relevant unfortunately.

You were protected on a QF ticket by QF (and yes good service from VIP team indeed). Not relevant though in the case of a JQ passenger with status - which is what this thread is about (see subject and OP). Unfortunately you've confused the entire situation. (that probably comes across more rude/mean than I intend)

EDIT/ADD: perhaps you were referring to the part of the discussion about putting the OP's mum on connecting QF flights and how any delays or issues may be handled - that is relevant (though WP would unlikely get the same level of assistance as P1). If so then that makes some sense. It wasn't entirely clear :)

hey, look at that - for once it wasn' me helping send threads OT but actually trying to bring it BACK (and verify) on topic. Who woulda thunk it?!

Probably need more information. Other than select locales (*cough* Darwin *cough cough*), I probably wouldn’t do it on the last jetstar flight of the day, 2nd last yes. Darwin yes. Some other domestic red eyes (are there any?), yes. Domestic leg of a 787 trip, forget it!

Cough no cough
Darwin has several JQ flights a day.

Hervey Bay
Mackay
Margaret Rive
Ayers Rock

Are once a day.
Also as I understand it they love sending planes here because it helps them have aircraft utilisation despite east coast curfews. Cancellation rate for JQ is therefore similar to QF. And there is usually a reasonable plan to rebook onto other east coast services if there are cancellations

Are they more likely to can flights from a daily destination? Maybe. Like I say, my tolerance would be massively route dependent

The relationship between QF and JQ is very complicated. Yes having status with QF gives you lounge access and yes you can earn status credits and squiggles towards earning QF status, and yes you can even earn QF points and book QF awards operated by JQ, but that's where the relationship ends. As a QF elite you aren't treated any bit differently during IRROPs or otherwise. I have been fortunate to have had several JetStar flights cancelled on me which I absolutely loved since I could force them to put me on a routing to get more status credits. But let me tell you the rebooking engine will be limited to JQ flights meaning you'd need to connect somewhere and deal with the hassle of connecting on a JQ flight (i.e. having to re-check bags at your connecting airport).

One possibility to consider would be booking the flight as a QF classic award ticket - ideally on a QF operated flight (if availability is there). Otherwise you could select a JQ classic award flight. The big benefit of booking it this way through QF as an award is if things go sideways, QF is on the hook not JQ, since it's a QF ticketed flight.

Did you book through the qantas site? Because Quickstatus pointed to an inkling of real world data that Qantas seems to do its own rescheduling of cancelled JQ flights with QF options.

Indeed, this has been my experience, having flown on a JQ classic flight award from HBA to SYD last year. Flight got cancelled and was given a number of options to choose from (both JQ and QF). Naturally I picked the QF option to get the better service (and assurance that I can access the world renowned QF lounge at HBA)
