Does seat availability for a booking change when QFF membership level changes?

Thanks for the reminder, serfty. Checking back at T-80 meant the following moves just recently:

332 from 4A, 4B to 1A, 1B
738 from 3A, 3C to 1D, 1F
738 from 2D, 2F to 1A, 1C
321 from 2G, 2H to 1A, 1C
734 from 3A, 3C to 2A, 2C
734 from 3A, 3C to 2A, 2C

Presumably some pesky Platinums affected the last two legs, and thus our perfect score. ;)

Nice! Those are some awesome seats to get into!! :D

Checking at T-80 last night and this morning resulted in a move to 6C on a 738 and 24E on a 763, both of which I’m quite happy about, even if I’m in the middle for the flight home.

So as a SG am I better to not allocate seats at all, because more than likely I'll get a better seat automatically allocated at T-80???

Whereas if I allocate a seat, if there are any seats in rows 4-10 (on a 738 - which usually there are unless you're flying at 6pm on a Friday night, and there may be enough WP's to fill it - but still unlikely) someone else - even silver or below - could get allocated those. But I've done the right thing and pre-assigned, but I am further back!

Won't have to worry in a couple of months as will be WP, but for the interim it's nice to know :)

No, grab the best seat you can beforehand, then improve it if possible after T-80.

It does not work like that; seats are allocated according to 'notional seats' and you'll find auto-allocated PS would be in seating not preferred by you, they would be unlikely to be "in front of you".

Irrespectively you still need to jump in after T-80.

Did your allocations automatically move though, or could you just suddenly see the front of the cabin, but needed to move yourself through all your flights individually? :p
ok, there are limits to platinum pampering!
Yes but be very careful of pre-allocated seats when there is an aircraft substitution.

Say you had 25B on a 767-338 international version (first aisle seat behind crew rest)and it was substituted to a 737 then you will find youself down the back in a middle seat.

Always check that there has not been an aircraft substitution. I now only pre-allocate J seats on a 767.

Sometimes when you realise you are not going to get another chance to change your set after T-80 it may be better to go with the default. As a current PS I often find my return flights only offer me the back of the plane but on my outward bound flight I can get up the plane after T-80. I often don't get a T-80 chance to look after I leave home so stick with what they give me. Of course you can always change at the airport if there's room.

I'm about to crack SG so we'll see what I get offered at T+80 - whether the front of the plane opens up.

It should open up - from about row 11 on a 737 or row 30 on a 767

I could've been that pesky Plat that stole 1A,1C from you...I do that sometimes ;);)
