Domestic and international flights on different bookings/itineraries

Yup the orange T bus is probably the go. The train involves more schlepping and cost for probably little, if any, gain in time.

If you are going to slum it at the Ibis Budget near the SYD dom terminal, book your uber or taxi the day before, as there won't be any taxis waiting near the taxi rank at T2/T3.
I made that mistake once.

Pay more for the Rydges, its right across the plaza from T1.
Saves a lot of worry about stuff.
Granted you will still have to bring your items from T3 across by either the train or the bus the night before, but if you do stay at the Rydges, you can drop bags off first thing the AA counter opens, and flying J, at least you will get prem check in, and also the so so SYD QFi J lounge experience.
If you haven't been into the QFi SYD lounges, of course, the F one is best, but the J one is not so bad.

AA72 on the 31/10, got cancelled, according to flightradar!
And the plane is an older 777, of course, in J will be a bit better than in Y.

Yeah, I saw that. AA73 (LAX to SYD) got cancelled on 29/10 too so I am guessing they didn't have a plane in Sydney and had to cancel the return flight back to LAX. It seems to have been pretty good apart from that.

I have never flown AA internationally before - the Business looks very nice (much better than my original plan which was Economy on QF11). I was pretty lucky to snag the reward flight both directions on the exact days which I wanted to fly - by pure chance, I was looking at the Qantas website earlier this week and thought I would check on the off-chance (as I never considered flying AA). I checked ExpertFlyer and it looks like they only had that one reward seat available.

When is your trip? And can we expect a trip report?

Another question, really looking at the details now. I am flying solo, so it's a given to get an A or J seat - as they are on the side with direct aisle access (since it's a 1-2-1 configuration).

I have chosen an A seat, since I usually sleep on my left-hand side which means I can face inwards (not the aisle) when (at least trying to) sleep. What are everyone's thoughts? Is it better to face the aisle to have breathing room, or facing inwards to minimise disruption?

Personally I'd prefer to be not facing the aisle. Just don't want to wake up disoriented and staring at something strange.

But then again I'm an easy sleeper who can nap in Y through a takeoff roll if I'm tired enough.
