Domestic Capacity Increase

Interesting note about the expansion in this months F/F statement:

We have added 19 return services across selected domestic routes, as well as a number of brand new Boeing 767 aircraft, which are replacing the smaller Boeing 737 aircraft. During 2010, Qantas will add more than 340,000 domestic seats.

Are they leasing more from BA? :lol: :lol:

That comment didn't appear on my QFF statement/newsletter (my opening article was about bumper availability of Any Seat Awards :rolleyes: Nice prices QF....)

In any case, is it still possible to get new 767 aircraft? Unless this is an odd compensation package from Boeing in lieu of the delayed 787s (highly doubt that). And leasing old 767s from BA for us? Get real.

To be fair, there are a heap of airlines around the world still using 767s, but they are either in the old school like QF, or they are those carriers which can't afford better medium/long haul aircraft (e.g. Royal Brunei Airlines). I think it's kinda amazing how far those 767s can actually fly (but for anything over 6-7 hours I think it's brutal).

Yeah, 767's are still being made. Boeing delivered 13 of them last year to customers. I think they're only offering 200ER/300ER/400ER and 300-Freighter versions though.
 
There's nothing wrong with 767s and are perfectly suited to longer runs such as transatlantic services; can't see anything that could be classed as brutally bad with them

The UA 767s are v pleasant in business class across the pond for example

You're right, Dave.

After all, if you have a classic car but maintain it very well in and out, even if the car is very old, it's still pleasant to drive (even if the car grunts much louder than today's cars, but that might be your thing. I've yet to fly on an aircraft which I'd want to be louder rather than softer.)

The problem is when the car isn't well maintained in and/or out.

Any aircraft in Y >4hrs is brutal. Moreso if it's AA, UA, or pretty much any american carrier:rolleyes:

Any aircraft in J is a walk in the park by comparison.

Indeed you just have to peruse AFF and find a distinct preference for them over 737's for domestic flights with Aus, that's for sure (and trans tasman before the upgraded 737's arrived).

It's all to do with the fit out. I've flown very nice 767's on NZ, LAN, JAL, AA and ANA (give me an AA 767 any day over an AA MD80 or 757).

I think the QF international 767's just give the whole type a bad name - compared with the rest of the QF international fleet, having only mainscreen in Y and dreamtime seats in J is substandard compared to the A330s, A380s and 744s (and new TT 737s as well).
