Domestic First Class

That's especially so if you get one of their refurbished 763's. The F seats leave QF domestic J for dead.
All the AA 763s now have the new seats up front (F for domestic and J for international flights). All the old domestic F seats are gone from the AA 763 fleet.

AA domestic First seems to vary widely depending on the aircraft you end up flying.

I've taken plenty of the short-hop MD80 flights - very average and certainly showing the age of the aircraft. Compared to CBR-SYD on a 737 in J the seats, service and meals are rubbish on the MD80. Very glad those aircraft are being phased out.

The 757s are, as harveyk mentioned, pretty similar to Qantas' 737 aircraft in terms of seats, but I would still rate QF J ahead of AA Domestic F on those aircraft. The seats are similar but the service on AA is far below than on QF, especially in terms of meal offerings. For instance, the red-eye SFO-MIA doesn't have a meal service (dinner or breakfast) - just a single drink offer and nut/pretzel snacks shortly after takeoff (thank god for the Flagship Closet in MIA). Pretty average for a trans-continental flight in 'First Class'.

The 777s in 3-class configuration are far superior to QF J - but that's because they are a 'true' F offering rather than re-branded J. Lie-flat beds, personal IFE, proper meal service etc - similar to F on a Qantas 747. Flying MIA-LAX on an AA 777 was a similar experience to F on QF108 JFK-LAX (which is as close to a 'Domestic' QF First experience as you can get). That said, those aircraft do have a J cabin also so it's not really fair to compare QF Domestic J to the AA F cabin on the 777.
