Domestic & International Seat Selection now has exit rows

Another data point. If it's been mentioned then sorry, I missed a page or 2 in this thread.


3x NB. Including 1 child. Obviously a slight priority with Altea. They were able to pre-select without cost incurred. Not sure if it's a teething issue. Probably a good idea when you think about it.
 
Okay I have just booked a few flights for late this year and early next year

QF 9/10 is the one I am curious about for a trip in February/March

I am Gold with QF, but the best row that the phone agent (on two calls) could find me is row 21/22/23/24 :evil: I can use the MEL-LHR seat selection tool online and this gives me a massive choice of about 6 seats :evil:

Surely as a Gold member with a flight that is about 300 days away there are more seat available to pick from ? Heck last time I booked using points I had basically a full selection of seats to pick from, including rows 11-13.

NB: I can't check seat selections for all flights as it doesn't like the other domestic Euro flights in the middle of my multi-city trip so I can't get to check the LHR-SIN-MEL seating.
 
As a lowly silver with a PER-HKG booking for July/Jan return I was surprised to find the system had allocated me exit row seat 45K on both legs....

My main questions:
1) I already linked this booking to my friend's so we could sit together... what likelihood that this actually occurs into an exit row? My thought is - unlikely. Since she's demanding my window seat, I won't be too devastated if we end up separated :lol:
2) Will I be expected to pay for this? I know there was a previous thread about this, but I never heard any followup to find out if the selection stuck without the paying of fees. It becomes a tough call - if its not going to stick then am I better off reserving a good non-exit seat now? :confused:

I think rows 11-13, if it is a 388, are open only to CL/WP for seat selection. I have seen this part of the cabin referred to as "emerald city" on this site.

Yes that is true I think as well.

However funny that just over a year ago booking on FF points and with only Silver status I managed to get row 12.... :(

Now i am paying for the seat basically 3/4 of the cabin is blocked...

If you go through the Seat Selection process and leave yourself in the exit row, then the next page will let you know if you are expected to pay for it. I would have also thought that your linked pax would appear on the seat map. If you know their Amadeus reference number you could verify details on CheckMyTrip.
 
You should know beforehand if an exit seat is going to cost you.

A "mouseover" on a vacant exit seat should show the cost if any.

e.g.

Of course the best plans can always come undone, the aircraft changed and Row 13 is no longer an exit row, and I was still in it, good news is 4 opened up !

I should add the exit rows are not selectable through OLCI.
 
I just made a new award booking through AAdvantage and was about to call QF and complain that I can't see premium seating even though my QF number is in MMB.

I called AA instead and as soon as they removed my AA number - voila - QF MMB recognises my QF status. Lesson learned - always have AA remove the AA number first.

J Exit rows appear exactly as Serfty describes above. No more calling QF to get 16A allocated. Although 1A looked more appealing ;)
 
Does anyone know how quickly QF process the payment for the exit row from a credit card? The money has been gone from my available balance for several days, but hasnt come through as owing. Im assuming they will complete the transaction long before the flight, otherwise its going to be sitting like that for months...

Although slightly not what you wanted to know. I can confirm as a WP on a return QF 9/10 flight (classic award seat) that the exit rows are still $160 for Economy BUT for Premium economy and Business, they are free. I am currently waitlisted for an upgrade so I have full access to all three classes and seat selections.

I have also noticed that one of the changes was the highlighting of the Baby basinet seats which is good.

For those us that usually aren't fussy FFer's what happens at T-80? (I presume that is take-off -80 hours).
 
It doesn't just seem to be permitted for silver - simply anyone - and the booking class seems to have some influence as well. All classic award bookings (e.g. U and X class) appear now to have access to ANY seat that has not been allocated yet, regardless of the tier status of the member, including exit rows. In addition, NBc can book exit rows on 767 aircrafts. A few examples (all flights at least 14 days in the future):

Int 767 PER-->NRT booked in U by bronze member (before the "enhancement" a few rows in the back were selectable):

Now a domestic A332 PER-->SYD booked in X by NB:

Now the same NB booked in E (Red-E deal) SYD-->PER (A332 as well)

This really seems to favour just anyone to request almost any seat, regardless of tier staus.
As a WP this stinks to high heaven.

So I guess that gives us the answer around Silver frequent flyers:
- 767: exits available where row 43 is an exit as it is within the silver seating zone - note that QF only have 7 of these 763 aircraft in this configuration - the rest rows 34/35 are the exit, which are not in the silver seating zone
- 737: exits not available (as it is in the gold seating zone)
- T-80: free for all as per usual with whatever seating is not already allocated!

This is not the case for me.
I'm Silver and I have a domestic U JASA coming up, but cannot select seats forward of row 4 on a 763 or 332.

Is that A330 seat map within T-80?

If not it might be another bug (there seem to have been a few - at one stage I couldn't select a seat at all, then 10 minutes later I could get any seat except fron 2 rows which is correct as WP).

What we have established is if the Exit row is within the seating zone for the member status, then it is available. For example, on a 767 where only row 34 is an exit, this is only available to WP/SG. However on a 767 with row 43 also configured as an Exit, this is available to PS/NB as well, as it is within their zone. 737s the exits are only ever available to SG/WP as PS zone doesn't start until row 16.

At T-80 the seating opens up as usual, so if exits are unallocated at that point anyone can select (we're not sure how this will work with NGCI as the T&Cs say exit row pax must check in at a counter).

Finally, international configuration aircraft have less restrictions - the premium zones are smaller so that means anyone can select an exit, but will have to pay

I won't be surprised if it's like when someone declares that they're carrying dangerous goods during check-in - when you try to check-in at the pole or drop bags you will be advised to proceed to the service desk. You then queue up and get processed manually, those of us with status would presumably go to the Business desk to save queuing.
