I booked a multi-city flight from BNE to MEL to SYD. The connection in MEL is one hour.

I'm wondering whether I can bring checked luggage on these flights and whether it will get checked through to SYD? The booking is under the same PNR.

Of course you can take checked luggage. If you booked a ‘Lite’ fare you’ll have to pay for it though.
It will be checked to SYD. The multi-city part is really just forcing the connection to the flights you want. It’s probably costing you more than the direct flight too.
