Dress like thongs and mens tank tops should be barred from all airports not just lounges period. I really don't want to view dirty feet or smell underarm odour at any time!, reminds me of Trains, Planes and Automobiles.

I still don't understand why people travel in thongs. I don't care if you are travelling to the tropics wear some shoes and keep your thongs in your luggage. Anyway a table is not a place to put feet on but you can see why people are able to get away with it. Hardly anyone says anything to them or informs the lounge staff.

I am certain I had severe food poisoning (tuna baguette) from SYD T2 Lounge around 3-4 years ago. A lot of the items at the food counter can be there for a number of hours and we have no idea what goes on with food preparation off site anyway.

Personally I see travel in thongs as dangerous. I would much rather have proper shoes on my feet if I had to evacuate an aircraft especially if there was any fire or broken glass or other sharp edges etc around. Thongs may be ok at the beach but not for travel. If I had my way, thongs would not make the minimum dress standard for lounge access or even for travel on an aircraft. The only exception I would make would be for medical reasons if a person cannot get a shoe onto a swollen foot or is wearing a cast etc.

I agree, interestingly some US airlines will refuse to carry barefoot passengers but have no such restriction about "flip flops",never seen anything in the Qantas conditions about footware though.

Meh. Growing up in Queensland. I went barefoot 80% of the time up until starting high school where they made you wear shoes. Of course, I didn't do much flying then

I could walk on broken glass without suffering to much damage. ;)

My only near death food experience in a Qantas lounge involved the 5pm crush for a party pie in the BNE lounge, the contents of which were in excess of 1000 degrees C.

Had 2nd degree burns down my hand and mouth after the first bite..

(I'm still a bit gun shy around party pies)..

Thongs for travelling yes - sometimes it simply is just more comfortable (Long haul). In lounges no, except maybe for weekends it wouldn't be as offensive.

Tank tops - Not in lounges ever, and not on planes unless your are riding Turboprops around the tropics.

I saw an Indigenous chap refused boarding in Perth because he left his thongs at home. So obviously it's important to Qantas.

BTW I never de-shoe in the air(long haul) until we have reached cruising. Always be ready to deplane in a hurry, possibly?

From the Qantas Club Terms and Conditions:
"10.7 Smart, casual dress standards apply at all times. Individual lounge managers will have discretion to administer these standards as they reasonably deem appropriate in the circumstances".

The Qantas Club Terms & Conditions

I wonder how often the lounge managers "administer the standards"?

Filthy animal. An accidentally-spilled glass of red wine soaking into his socks would have solved this situation to my satisfaction.

I'm quite happy to put my feet up on my personal sofas, but outside one's own home; and certainly in public places like an airline lounge; they have no place anywhere but the floor.

This is an accurate description of the type of person who asks for a free upgrade at checkin.

Reminds me of those photos send around taking the p!ss out of Mastercard.

Some guy is asleep on a couch surrounded by a group of frat boys who immerse his hand in a glass of water which triggers some reaction with the bladder. You then notice a suspicious wet patch on his trousers.

Now that's priceless!.

Was it one of Neil's?

Bare feet on tables are disgusting (memo to my son).

Unfortunately, the world is becoming more and more selfish. This behaviour is not confined to nappy changing in public. For eg, by all means bring your kids with you into the QF lounge, but keep them quiet. If you can't, leave. It's quite simple really.

P.S. I have raised 4 kids and have 2 grandkids.

I would have asked the wanker to remove his feet. If he refused or was rude then the aforementioned spilling option would come into play.

How about a less confrontational approach?
A game of “This Little Piggy” perhaps.
