DONE4 - Do they ever go on sale EX AU

Playing around with a DONE4 trip for next year.

About $13k ex AUS, which while being "not too bad" I would like it cheaper of course.....

Would prefer to start it here in AUS rather than position somewhere else as adding on a J flight to another start/end point would bring the cost up to be the same

I am looking at the following rough routing, so any other ideas/help/thoughts welcome

MEL-LAX-JFK-LHR-SIN-MEL (May use DXB instead of SIN)

Also need to fly LAX-LAS-DEN-JFK in the middle, but using AA is not easy for those flights as they involve stopovers (normally wouldn't care but travelling with the +1 who is not the biggest fan of flying)

To maximise points and SC earn anything else I should do/think of ?

The only time I've seen them go on sale in Australia was a few years ago for the oneworld 10th anniversary. There was a 10% discount for a few weeks for all oneworld Explorers, from memory.

Australian prices are ridiculously greater than a lot of other locations.

That's what I was thinking, I mean the price is pretty good as it stands plus the points/SC haul..... for a Plat and Bronze member

Points earn for 2 people
$26k on credit card = 52000
MEL-LAX 180SC and 22500 + 13500
LAS-JFK 120SC and 3000ish + 3000ish
JFK-LHR 100SC and 10000ish +10000ish
LHR-MEL 290SC and 31000 + 18600

So total haul of points is 160000ish and 690SC approx so almost enough for an F MEL-LAX which is $6000 of value approx



Would still like to hear options/opinions though!

Done 3 x DONE4s and, based on the knowledge found on AFF, know you can do a whole lot better than 690SC if you've even a little spare time on your hands.

Very true, looking at the options and playing with the OneWorld booking took, however travelling with the +1 it's going to limit my options for fully maximizing the flights

True, and speaking from personal experience also
Interestingly, Mrs Paddy has asked to do the next DONE4 with me :shock: as I'm looking to start in JNB and she's always wanted to travel there!
