OK thanks guys. That's great. So how does this look: SYD-LHR-SEA-DFW-LAX-SYD.

Mileage Monkey says that's 700 SCs which, when doubled, gives me the 1,400 I need to go from zero to WP in one week. I need two stopovers but I'll be stopping in London, Seattle and LA so that covers that.

My TA suggested booking just SYD-LHR instead of what I'd usually do: SYD-SIN-LHR. I guess the only issue there is the loss of about 80 SCs (when doubled, according to Mileage Monkey) and one sector. I do need QF sectors though as I have none in this qualifying year so maybe I should change that back? It's just a tax issue then isn't it?

Does the promotion only apply to SC on QF flight numbers? If so you cannot just double the whole total.

I might be wrong, but the promotion refers to doubling SCs on flights that earn QF SCs. All flights in an xONEx earn QF SCs - or at least all the flights I've ever taken have earned QF SCs.

Another suggestion is to start and finish via AKL do booking and pay on the one world RTW site with conversion will be a couple of $K cheaper & add two DSC of 80 each way - plus either cheap fare or ASA return to AKL and more DSC.

I haven't look at code shares yet but using the suggestion of going via MEL and adding in a little European side trip I think I can get to 1,400 SCs with this: SYD-MEL-SIN-LHR-LIN-LHR-SEA-DFW-LAX-SYD. Mileage Monkey says that's 900 SCs and if I double the SCs on QF metal then I get to 1,400 without disrupting my schedule too much.

Have you considered a DGLOB34? It's the same cost as a DONE4 and codeshares (e.g. on AS metal) are permitted.

Thanks serfty but I'm confused... To me that looks like slightly more work than SYD-MEL-SIN-LHR-LIN-LHR-SEA-DFW-LAX-SYD and yet this gets me exactly 1,400 SCs (by my calculations). What am I missing?

Nothing!

If you want exactly that number of SC's and that works for you, no problems here.

I was offering up further options (including one if you wished to avoid some level of backtracking) and looking to illustrate through that, the greater flexibility of a DGLOB34.

Gotcha. I've really just got to weigh up whether I want to go directly from LHR to SEA and then do the backtracking when heading down to SEA or, using the DGLOB34, take a stop-start approach to getting to SEA but then have no back-tracking to do.

Maybe I can choose this based on airlines...the AA flight LHR-JFK is using their new product so that's probably a bit nicer than BA J which I've experienced several times before (and, so as not to upset the BA fans, I think is quite nice by itself).

I just picked it based on being a reasonable amount of SCs but not too much flying. I have no intention of leaving the terminal. Having said that, the BA lounge at LIN is *rubbish* so you've raised a worthy objection. Glad you've persevered with this thread . What's my alternate James?
