Dones out of Bali or KUL

There is no faffing around. Once CX ( or whoever ) has issued it , then can phone AA and request the eVIP ( or mileage ) upgrade. The upgrade will be processed and the AA system will reissue it onto AA stock. Since any OW carrier can issue/reissue OW ATW tickets then there is no problem in the slightest

The issue only occurs on tickets which are issued by another carrier and cannot be reissued by AA ( such as QF r/t tickets )

I was just taking Sefty's word about the faffing.

Thanks all for the guidance and input. I think I've concluded that the online booking is the way to go to avoid stuffing around with a local office. Noting the risk of the booking engine not doing the transaction and the AA fuel fines thing. Then if needing to do the eVIP upgrade thing just ring AA for a reissue.

faffing or not, it introduces another possible point of failure.

Mind you using a Bali / KUL TA may or may not have it's own issues with possible points of failure.

It doesn't create another possible point of failure. ...
Of course it does create a possible point of failure - even if unlikely.

Each time one changes a ticket/booking the possibility of a mistake exists.

I always approached contact with old IndiAA desk with trepidation.

In any case there may be a greater chance of failure if trying to employ a carrier's agent/office in Indonesia that simply booking online.

AA Brisbane are tightening up AA upgrades on non-AA tickets. This year I have upgraded myself and others for a total of 8 AA flight upgrade awards which all generated new 001 tickets.

Last week I upgraded 2 pax and had them waitlisted for another sector upgrade. AA Brisbane informed me that they would not be reissuing either of these tickets for the confirmed or waitlisted upgrade when it comes through.

Apparently they have made a note for the checkin/gate staff to see. Reservation does show upgraded confirmed class in checkmytrip though.

Hopefully checkin goes smoothly for my beneficiaries!

PS All tickets were originally 081 Qantas issued tickets.
