Don't have One Too Many or Admit being Drunk...

With free booze available @ various Lounges, its easy to have one too many pre-boarding drinks. What has been your experience on this front?

I have yet to see inebriated passengers but tend to fly internationally far more and not on 'bogan' routes like Oz to Bali.

Brissy lounge was popping bottles like it was going out of business just after Christmas, overheard staff saying they were "going to run out at this rate".

I figured it was the after affect of enforced family togetherness during Christmas that was driving people to drink once they hit the airport and could relax.

I've never had a bad experience with a drunken fellow passenger in a lounge or on a plane (but have flown a LOT less than most on here). Have to admit I have hit lounge bars pretty hard a few times (hello The Pier, Hong Kong) but am a pretty mellow/happy drunk and would confidently/hopefully say I have never disturbed another pax or caused annoyance etc. The one (minor) time it went a bit wrong was when I fell sleep (crashed out) once on board and spilled my glass of wine on myself. White wine, so not a disaster...

Yes, i was cut off in the SYD F Lounge after 1 drink at an AFF do a few years back. I think i was viewed as guilty by association with a noisy bunch but no one was inebriated.

I watched the Brisbane J lounge pour shots (sorry, Jack and coke, hold the coke) for an obvious group of FIFO guys. Several rounds. They all behaved, just cheered every round, and swayed onto the flight.

I asked for a double rum and coke, and was told "sorry sir, RSA prevents that sort of pour.

I just watched an episode of 24 hours in Emergency, missed the first few minutes so didn't catch what had brought the young fellow in _ he looked to be in his 20s. I thought he was having a fit or had Parkinsons, but it was actually the full blown DTs. Absolutely shocking.

I’ll point out that neither time were we even the slightest bit tipsy. Four drinks in four hours is far from excessive.

I did get absolutely smashed once on an A330 journey VA MEL-PER. The bubbles kept coming so I kept drinking them! Eventually I was the one who asked for a soft drink instead.

I know I'm a functional drunk though, and I was just sitting watching movies, so perhaps the FA didn't notice how much I'd had.

I know what DTs are (and its Delirium). It was just a little out of context. Unless accusing anyone who drinks in the lounge to be an alcoholic who is at risk of DTs unless they drink before a flight..... The topic was about overindulging in the lounge and/or RSA and people's experiences with seeing, interacting, or being part of this (I thought).

On our flight to Ayers Rock (airport name) last month there was a bloke who was ordering as soon as we were in the air and then throughout the flight was walking up the aisle with a can of Great Northern. I don't know the rules but I'm guessing you're not supposed to be out of your seat with a drink, alcohol especially but a hot tea or coffee could get nasty too. For the flight back this bloke was hitting the grog hard before we boarded (paid, no lounge there) and then ordered up on the flight on the way back. Luckily he fell asleep this time.

I must say considering the amount of alcohol consumed by fliers I'm surprised I haven't seen much boorish behaviour ever. Not even from me...

Thankfully I've never had an issue although I do recall being told only 2 drinks at a time.
