Does anyone know why Australia seems to be the only country that enforces a double back search for liquids?

I understand the first pass at the Xray machines for 100ml.. but the extra one at the gate just seem stupid ?

Just came back from Fiji and all the people who bought water for the flight from the airport had to dump it all.

Given they bought it after the first Xray screening seems bonkers.

I have had this 3 times now in SG/HK/Fiji..

What is the reason ?

There is only one layer of security screening in Singapore. Duty free can be delivered to the gate post that screening.

At KUL, you pass through one security checkpoint after immigration but before the gate, there are no signs regarding liquids or laptops at this point, but the majority of travelers follow the standard procedure. Then there is another x-ray and security check at each gate. Duty Free is collected after this second check.

i dont think its for duty free. As long as its in the Sealed bags from the shops i think that is ok.

It was more for cans of drink and bottles of water. But given this is all bought from inside the
terminal after the first scan/xray im not sure why they do it.

They def did not do it on our flight from Fiji to USA

If you have duty free in sealed bags at Hong Kong (as reported on AFF) you will lose it at the security check point. Same at Bali. So I don't think it is correct to say sealed duty free bags are ok.

The same thing happens in Dubai. I know there is a process for duty free but I do like to take a big bottle of water to drink during the flight...

Wasn't it to do with some airports not being able to guarantee the security of the terminal to the satisfaction of our government with staff coming in and out of doors airside... But I would've thought that would only be a minimum of airports while this seems to be a fairly blanket security requirement by our government... Who knows the rationale of these stupid OTT airport checks but I'm sure our duty free stores aren't complaining...

It happens in Bali too and they are relentless.

I found it funny in DXB that face cream etc that I bought duty free was allowed to go on the plane, but a bottle of water wasnt....

From what I recall of prior discussions here, isn't different liquid standards between carriers from DPS? i.e. no duty free on JQ, but VA and GA?

A bit like Government security warnings about not travelling to countries, there is probably little incentive to take a realistic approach and then be second guessed about why weren't there more warnings/security if something goes wrong... Bureaucratically probably safer to be OTT and then have your behind covered if the worst does occur...

With SQ ( I would imagine it applies to all transiting airlines though) if you are routed through Munich.....all drinks including any bought duty free get placed into a rubbish bin.

The time I transited there, there was a lot of expensive un-opened alcohol being binned!

I don't understand why blutack is acceptable and doesn't even raise an eyebrow.....

They don't sell to people travelling to Australia in HK. They wouldn't let me buy more than 100ml of perfume, not to mention the alcohol I wanted! At least with SQ you can buy it and pick it up after the second gate.

Again there is no second security screening at Singapore. The only screening occurs at the gate.

Oh I saw that it was mentioned, but the poster said that he had his confiscated. When I flew a week and a bit ago, they didn't even sell it to me, which saved me some money.
