That’s sensible. If you don’t have a strong desire to visit NZ you may as well wait to renew till more travel opens up.

You do not need an email to register, the detail in on the website. If you are talking about no registration confirmation email QF has always been hit and miss in regards to this. Sometimes it happens other times it does not.
In this case there would be no email confirmation going by the FAQ's.

I certainly did not receive one.

How do I know if I have registered for bonus Qantas Points and double Status Credits?
Once you have logged in and completed the registration process, confirmation of your registration will display in the registration section of this page
I've taken a PDF of the confirmation screen.

I also received a confirmation email.

I assume you logged in before registering? May be a difference between registering off the e-mail (which SHOULD identify you, but you never know) and registering on the web site after logging in.

I did it the first way, and no e-mail after a few hours. I've just registered after logging into the web site, as 'belt and braces', with screen shots of both :)

EDIT: And just got a confirmation e-mail, a minute later. So, register off the web site after logging in and not off the e-mail, if you want to be certain.

I'm still confused about how the bonus 5,000 points works.

The Qantas website says "Simply make a new booking on any eligible flight and you'll be rewarded with 5,000 bonus Qantas Points when you book and double Status Credits when you fly*."

And the T&Cs say:

The T&Cs and FAQs don't make any further references to 5,000 points. Do you get 5,000 bonus points for an unlimited number of one-way flights?
It wouldn't be a Qantas promotion without confusing and sometimes contradictory T&Cs longer than a 747's wing.
Yes. The DSCs count towards the rollover.
This was confirmed by AFF, actually, wasn't it?

Yes, it was.

And I can say from personal experience that DSCs I earned from past promotions did roll over as expected (my membership year ended in March).

I may not have been clear enough and have not read all the T's & C's just saw @Kiwi_Flyer comment post 2 that the domestic don't count. It would have just been easier if the whole offer was just a simple AU-NZ.As someone who has to connect to get to NZ using QF say ADL-SYD-AKL why specifically exclude ADL-SYD. It was not my intention to suggest it should be an open DSC offering to/from anywhere. I am aware there has been other offers that were location specific, from memory there were reports of targeted DSC offers based on what seem to be search but that was a couple of years ago.
Oh I agree 100% with you. It does seem a bit stingy to not include the domestic connections tbh given they seem to be trying to give away SC's at other points.

I can't help wonder if they've copied one of the previous promos with similar conditions and just left it as is. Maybe also they are trying to stop crazy routings (some may remember those NOU runs some did) like BNE-ADL-MEL-SYD-AKL etc.

I am sure they have, we often criticise QF ITS for getting things wrong. Maybe it is the marketing team and their lazy/ haphazard approach to the standard 'cut and paste' approach for any promotion and not reading the copy prior to posting that leads to endless discussion on this site. I for one am more confident in how the promotion will be processed by the "computer" than what is written in the terms.

Are you on both the Australian and New Zealand mailing lists?

I have figured out why I got 2 emails.

The 1st email was a reminder the sale ex-NZ was ending today, and it included a piece on the promo. The 2nd email was just about the promo and arrived a few hours later.
