Doubletree Melbourne

I believe that I may never stay at this hotel. It holds little benefit to me, compared with HSW. It looked bad enough before, but now adding $30 parking on top of what was said to be free parking .........

Edit: No EL, any upgrade may result only in a room that comes with a window as a benefit, no suites, new parking fee added .....

I'd agree that the HSW wins hands down on everything bar proximity (to CBD) and cost. Whilst as a Diamond (and regular stayer at HSW since opening) I can always expect an Exec Room or Suite, the $$ certainly does talk when one is spending ones own profit. As I don't need a car whilst in MEL very often (train and tram suffice for me), it takes that parking fee out of the equation.

I'd think that I'll only stay there after the renovations are finished and when high or shoulder seasons are gone....

Sweet, such a good deal!
Sitting in HOTP exec lounge booking future stays at HSW and updating in the DT thread :) gotta love Melbourne!

Right im popping in to doubletree to assess it on Sunday. Booked that travelzoo price for the historic station view room. .

Ill report back

Any recent reviews or pics? Tossing up between here or HOTP tomorrow night.

Rooms look decent from the pics on the Hilton website - are they accurate?

Whilst ataying at HOTP, +1 and I went to have a look at the Doubletree.
We asked to see a room and were shown one on the 5th floor, with a window,
In short, no thanks. The hotel is (or was last week) still a construction zone.

If you stay at Doubletree, you will regret the choice IMHO.

Whilst I have no current experience with the DT Melbourne site, I'd agree with Buzzards' assessment of enjoying HoTP tomorrow night JMFK.
No comparison really...

Once the HoTP has changed brand AND after the construction has finished, then it would be the "go to" hotel if HSW is too pricey

Thank you gentlemen, HOTP has been booked! Fingers crossed for a Relaxation Suite - one last hurrah would be nice ;)

Station View Room

This was paid for at travelzoo rate $131. Supposedly includes breakfast (as does gold status with HH anyway) - but since the restaurant was still under construction at the time I was invited to eat outside and claim back $15 pp cash which I did. Degraves st is just around the corner with loads of options. I like the location of the hotel, everything is very close by.

The room was very nice in my opinion, I was actually very impressed with the renovation. It felt modern and 'doubletree' in style. I enjoyed my stay despite the ongoing construction. Two bottles of water were in room and turndown service included chocolates. These rooms have huge windows with great views of the station, Yarra and southbank, very nice really. I would actually recommend this hotel once the renovations/refurbishments are complete. A couple of things to note: no bath in bathroom, shower only.... TV in this particular room is placed at right angle to bed which suited me ok but may not suit others, no bathrobes.

Thanks for sharing the pics btw! Looks very comfortable for the rate paid!
