As a Diamond member, we do get better access and I had rooms all the way to Level 14 IIRC. The room I had was 1115, so any xx15 room would be my choice from now on (and would have to be a higher room to escape any residual noise from the CBD)
Room 15 is my preferred too :), or if that’s not available, 12 is ok as well. 02 room on the highest floor has the best view but don’t choose that on a Fri or weekends or you’ll spend the whole night listening to sirens and loud revellers.

You should get a couple of drinks vouchers - if not, ask.

If you don't drink them the night before, you can use them to offset the coffee tax the morning after.
Correct - forgot to add that I used my vouchers to order two hot choc in my last photo and the Restaurant Manager got us both a cookie. Man, that was sugar overload.

Thanks for all the input, very much appreciated. OLCI opens tomorrow so will try and snag a 15 room :)

Had the opportunity to take a tour of newly opened level 14
There are three new rooms categories on that level:
King Loft Room
King Loft Federation View
One Bedroom Yarra View Suite with Balcony

King Loft rooms are split levels, downstairs a small living room with folding sofa bed and king size bed on the upper level. There are total 3 rooms of this type, some larger than others. Federation view lofts have an extra window with slightly better views of... Federation Square. Retailing at ~$400 these rooms are good for families or friends traveling together.

One Bedroom Suite (1402) sounds good, finally DT MEL gets a suite right? While technically there is a door separating the living area and bedroom overall it’s a very small suite. I felt they added an unnecessary door just so they could to invent another room category and call it a suite to justify the ~$500 price tag.

Now don’t get too excited about these new rooms because apparently the owner is very strict on not allowing any diamond upgrades to any of the new categories unless the hotel is fully booked or the diamond member booked Skyline River View with Balcony which is one step down from King Loft Room.

Level 14 is open barely two months yet I’ve already heard stories of diamond members demanding to get free upgrades to the suite and even threatening (to no avail) to cancel their booking if their demand is not approved. Hope no one in this group is DYKWIA enough to act so foolishly.

The decor in all new rooms is modern and colourful. Defiantly a step up from the blend decor in the rest of the hotel. All other rooms will be refurbished with level 14 rooms decor starting (probably) from next year.

I think they done good job overall although from a selfish point of view I would prefer to see an executive lounge being opened instead of new rooms which I would probably not use anyway.

How many of these upgraded rooms in total?
3 lofts, 1 suite, ? Fed loft.

Versus as the only HH property in Melbourne I'd guess 20+ Platinums every night.

Much like the Curio Sydney, just not enough, so no wonder they will only consider upgrading those in the most expensive categories.

Thanks for the update, and the warning that they provided about those demanding elites.

AFAIK level 14 has 3 lofts and 1 suite. Best upgradable room would be 1401 which is standard balcony suite but features the new decor, as well as some standard king room in the middle (with no views).

Btw Curio Sydney belongs to the same owner, as well as the new Hilton on Burke St which will hopefully complete the first stage of 80 heritage rooms buy the end of this year

Will there be an Exec lounge here?

Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences at the hotel since construction started out the front for the metro tunnel?

Apparently there may be construction noise until midnight..

Bit OT but the chap that used to check me in at the DT Melb, Blair? Is now running the Hilton Cairns. He recognised me earlier this month and provided a bottle of wine for our stay.

It hadn't started 2 weeks ago - Flinders Street still clear.

It looks like it is due to start from 2nd September.
I walked past 7am this morning on the way to work.

It had not started yet ...

I saw a notification today that indeed the north side of flinders street where the DT sits will be closed.

This closure will be for "three years".

Moreover it appears pedestrian access may be unavailable from Swanston St. - Degraves St. may be your friend.

I was put in a room directly adjacent to the laneway behind the hotel and could hear the sound of chep pallets being dropped in the small hours of the morning.

I can sleep through a cyclone if I need to so not a major issue for me but might bother others.

Staff did manage to get me an extra night that I needed at the same low rate I booked even though the hotel was 99.99% full.

No upgrade though (Diamond) but was given cookies, drinks vouchers and great service.

I'm there again from 21st to 25th November (4 nights IIRC), so will finally be making use of my pre-paid $50 (@boomy). As a current Diamond and regular since the closure of Hilton South Wharf, hoping for a decent room. Must check with @straitman and @JessicaTam for the best rooms.

I am there on the 24th! See you at the bar.

Try for room xx01 or xx02 for a view of Flinders St Station.
