Downgrading AMEX Triggering a Credit Enquiry?

Has anyone had any experience with downgrading their current AMEX card and whether that triggers a credit enquiry?

I'm thinking of downgrading to the essentials card, AMEX said they can do a product switch. I spoke to two people and both couldn't give me a clear answer as to wether it would trigger a credit check.

Has anyone else gone through this process?

I went from Amex Ultimate to Discovery a few months ago and my credit rating hasnt changed at all, not even by one digit. Same amount of credit, just the product change.

Who would be enquiring - AMEX? I'm not sure what the point of this exercise would be. They have your payment history.

Do you feel an enquiry would be detrimental to your credit history?

Yeah I read on another forum someone die graded and Amex conducted another credit check.

I’m applying for other credit so I don’t want this downgrade to hit my file as a new inquiry, especially given it’s not an app for new credit you know.

I wouldn’t be asking Amex that question in case of raising a red flag. But that’s just me.
