Dublin Easter 2016

Hi

Looking at taking Mrs Ansett to Dublin at Easter arriving on the 24th then returning on the 28th late evening flight. Does any one have experience of Easter in Dublin as in does it close down completely? What should one see and or do whilst there?

This year's the centenary of the Rising so I'd expect a few celebrations.

Can't comment on Easter, but the following are worth seeing:
* Trinity College (and the Library with the Book of Kells)
* Guinness Storehouse - do the tour and you finish up with a free drink on the top floor - good views of Dublin
* walk O'Connell and Grafton Streets
* GPO (bullet holes from the uprising)
* Dublin Castle (the HQ of the British Govt) and City Hall
* Christ Church Cathedral
* Old Parliament House (Bank of Ireland)
* Temple Bar district

The hop-on-hop-off bus I found quite useful, especially for an initial overview.

hi Ansett, John Phelan's advice is spot on. My brother lives in Dublin and the only problem we found on our last visit is the pubs are closed on Easter Sunday but you can buy alcohol in your hotel if in residence there. Otherwise Dublin is a beautiful lively city at all times. However it will be fairly quiet on Easter Friday and Sunday. A walk along the river at the docks end is worth it to see the sculptures and the locals out for some exercise.

Jameson Distillery is also worth a visit. +1 for the walk along the river - the famine memorial sculpture is particularly moving.

wasn't in Dublin but with friends just outside for Good Friday a couple of years ago - was surprised how much was open - even some shops that wouldn't be open in Australia.

+1 for Guinness tour - not a huge fan but it tasted so much better - also prebook tickets as the queues can be huge

Must do Trinity library and really all the things that JohnPhelan says - lovely city except for their bus station which is dire
