I like durians, but not the lingering taste in the mouth afterwards, or the lingering smell on the fingers!

pour some drinking water into the durian shell, and drink it after you had durian, it somehow will wash the taste and smell straight away, use the remaining water to wash your hands with, it does help.

durian lover here. I love it more than any other fruits in this world! oh and blue cheese, yuck!

PS:
Vegemite is OK, but mermite is really really stink!

Well I like both Durian and blue cheese. But then I have eaten chocolate coated grasshoppers, worms and a few other beasties in a Laotian market.

"The smell of hell and the taste of heaven" is what Durian is described as. Trick is not to smell it but put the fruit quickly into your mouth (and pray???):D

Word of warning, (though I don't know how true it is) one is not suppose to take brandy after taking durian as both are "heaty" to the body.

The thing to take is the Queen of fruit, the Mangosteen which is supposed to be "cooling" to the body. This will neutralise the "heatiness" of the durian.

My 2c worth.....if its worth that much!

Ric I would eat a mangosteen after anything. My absolute favourite.Wife and i can go through a kilo or 5 anytime.

Mangosteens! :D And rambutans. Mmm now these are tropical fruits I'd happily eat...

I've heard about the "heaty" and "cooling" thing from my relatives in Asia. But my parents reckon it's all a myth.... Any other examples of how food can heat up or cool down our bodies?

Racing car drivers seem to think champagne cools down their body if they make the podium.

heating and cooling foods are what I believe Chinesse way to indicate what cause what.

the "hot" type of food is not really heating your body, but has to do with your internal mechanism, somehow.

Try eat as much "hot" foods like durian or jackfruit, longan, and many others. see if you will not get sore throat the next day you have eaten them. Like alcohol, the tresshold for each person is different.

For comment on brandy after durian, as a teenager, we used to dare each other to eat as much durian as we can, drink beer, and continued with lamb (in our case was goat) satay. See who can stay sober after that. There are lots of emergencies run after that stupid dares; but kids are kids, never that stop us to do it again in other occassion.

Durian indeed known to enhance the work of alcohol.

Re: A visit to Singapore, Malaysia and a Quickie in the Philippines!

What the durian smell is to Westerners can be compared to the smell of certain cheeses to Asians:mrgreen:
To be honest I have never experienced the smell of a durian. Don't ask me how I have managed to avoid them. I have been to hotels in Malaysia and Thailand with a picture of a durian and red line through it like a no smoking sign.

I don't think I have missed out on too much judging by what most people think about durians and the reaction on peoples faces when they hear the word durian.
