Dusseldorf

I did Cologne in a day trip from DUS with time to spare (saw a couple of niche museums, walked along the river, went up the KolnTriangle building). I found Dusseldorf a little more interesting - but that may be as I had been to Cologne before and just found the area around the Cathedral too touristy.

I travelled down on an ICE train but came back on a regional S train. Not much of a time difference and for such a short journey I wouldn't be fussed. But if travelling with luggage that is different.

Cities are so close you can see both very easily. Makes sense to make a call based on the better hotel deal.

Yeah. DUS Hyatt looks newer though and Cologne Hyatt is apparently quite old. With a BRG claim I can bring down Hyatt DUS down a lot assuming it gets accepted so we will see how we go.

Like others, we chose Dusseldorf as it was the only place we could get to on QF points due to late booking and was the only place we could get into Europe in June last year. It is a OW hub as well. Stayed at a lovely family run hotel (Hotel Lessing about 3 *)which is walking distance to central rail, and is next to tram route. Hotel provides free tram tickets each day. Did a day trip to Cologne to see the cathedral, and also did a jolly trolly trip around that city which took about an hour. Took the local train between the two, time of day we did the trip meant the train was near empty, cost E$8 each return, and was about a 40 minute trip. Wife is a nurse and there is a historical connection for her as there is a nursing college there that Florence Nightingale did her early training at. Nice place, nice people, you wont regret going there.
