Duty free alcohol into Australia

Have you considered male underwear and medical ?

The latter thankfully I haven't needed to (well aware of the situation though). The former - certainly seems cheaper in the US to me.

(Perhaps I should have specified consumer goods. Also, I'm sure you're aware my post was tongue in cheek :)).

The last time they didn't let me buy any DF liquor at BKK before boarding for MEL on TG. I found really cheap DF liquor in India that i bought on arrival and brought back in my checked baggage. I think i bought Glenfiddich for 35USD. I usually buy DF liquor from SIN but was surprised when they didn't let me at BKK.

Hi.

I hope it's ok to resurrect an old thread. I basically have the same type of question, but I want to clarify that the rules haven't changed.

I'm travelling to UK in a fortnight and back in early August. A good friend of mine likes Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or, so I'd like to buy some in UK and bring it back. I'm aware of the restrictions in carry on luggage, but I'd like to know if it would get through legally, in my checked luggage. I don't care if it's duty free or retail from the UK. It's more about the bringing back.

I'll be flying on BA15 through Singapore. We have a 2 hr or so fuel stop in Singapore. I assume we don't have to collect our bags and re-check them in in Singapore. I'd imagine it would take them much longer than 2 hrs to do that for the whole aircraft.

Alternately, does anyone know of a website for one of the duty free shops in Changi where I can check the price and availability there? If it happens that buying it in Changi is the only way I can legally bring it back, so be it. I just want to know beforehand where I'll need to go, as 2 hrs isn't alot of time to be searching, buying, and doing whatever else I want to do before reboarding.

If packed in your check-in luggage (or put in the hold) and no more than the DF import allowance, you can buy it wherever you like. But if you need it to be carry-on, it has to be purchased on the final flight sector before Australia or at the final airport before Australia if the airport/airline/shop is willing to meet the Australian government LAG rules.

Thanks. I only want to buy a single bottle, so it looks as though I'll be fine.

I haven't flown internationally since before 2001, so all these regs are new to me.

Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious. Why might someone need it to be carry-on?

Buy it in Singapore! I got myself a bottle on the way back from SIN. came up to 80sgd a bottle for 1L.

Its likely cheaper to purchase DF at SIN than in the UK anyway. Just head straight to the DF shop on arrival into SIN. They will package it up in a taper-evident bag and arrange to have it delivered to the gate lounge where you collect as you board the aircraft for the departure from SIN.

I'll check the price in a sec, as I'm in SIN airport now.

I don't mean to sound like an old fart, but that's pretty amazing. (Not amazing that you'd do that, although it's definately decent of you to do that) It's amazing that technology nowadays allows us to do that. :)

DFS duty free terminal 1. I think you'll find they are almost all DFS and all the same price regardless. But I may be wrong.

In SIN, they will not sell DF to you unless there is 1hr 15mins to go before your boarding time (which in SIN can be well before departure time). So be very careful that you have enough time for transit purchases.

Ok. It does seem to be cheaper there than most retail stores in UK I've seen so far. Maybe I should buy it DF on the way out and bring it back in my checked luggage.

Going to UK. I can leave it with relatives and pick it up on the way back. It's crazy that I can buy it for less in Singapore than I can in Scotland.

It's whiskey not the hope diamond. Singapore on the way back every time

I know it's only whisky. I'm just thinking of the logistics. Austman said that they won't sell you duty free stuff within 1hr 15mins of departure. I checked my itinerary and we're only scheduled to be there for 1hr 55mins. I have no idea how long it will take to get off the aircraft, get to the duty free shop and make the purchase.
