Never had an E90 on the OOL-SYD service. I note VA 508 is shown as such on Mar 8. Is this new?

The E190s are being spread around a bit now as they have J installed, they are also back on the NTL run!

Sorry to take the thread OT a bit, but can anyone tell me whether the ADL-MEL flight at 6.10pm is on one of the newly refurbished E190s? I want to travel in J, but not if it's one of the old ones.

I'm just looking at 2 x OOL-CNSxSYD redemptions in J. 135000 points + $170.68 for 400 SCs and plat. Not the cheapest SCs going and seems a waste time but it fits our travel plans, saves a drive to Brissie and the dearer airport parking and gives us lunch at a restaurant in Syd on the way. It's for our 20 wedding anniversary and I'm not real sure whether it's Kosher to do SC runs on ones wedding anniversary in lieu of sipping coughtails around the pool at the CNS Hilton! We're a tragic bunch really ;)

Did you mean the 1910 ADL-MEL E90 flight? The 1810 service is being operated by a 737-800 with the 1910 service being operated by VH-ZPI (subject to change) which of course features the new J class.

Sorry. Yes, I meant the 7.10pm. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

I think DJ539 use to be an EJet service. I use to catch it often.

Only time I've had one must have been an equipment change, as it certainly wasn't that when I booked (made sure as was flying J). Wasn't a refurbished one... other than that was okay (not worth the $$ for J though)

Interesting on this thread that the E90 and and E190 are interchanged readily.

I originally queried the E90 heading and I wondered if the heading should reflect the E190.

Virgin Australia use the 3 letter IATA code, when you select a flight number to check the type of aircraft used.
73H Boeing 737-800 (winglets) pax
E90 Embraer 190
73W Boeing 737-700 (winglets) pax
Interesting website link on differences between the 3 letter IATA codes and the 4 digit ICAO codes. The Airline Codes Website Thanks serfty.

Don't forget the AT7 being the ATR 72 which is the main one I look for........to ensure I DON'T book it.

Screen shot of VA booking engine:
738.jpg

I was under the impression a 738 = 737-800 = 73H

If so, why does VA differentiate between a 738 and a 73H? Is the 738 a BSI?

Note to mods - perhaps the last few posts may be worthy of separating off to a new thread as VA are using IATA codes extensively to describe aircraft.

Some of the 737 800s were made without winglets for Virgin.

So for my backside in a seat, essentially no difference? Does this indicate VA have particular A/C slotted in many weeks out from a flight?

Yes, aircraft will be slotted many weeks out for their runs so they are best positioned for going offline or required maintenance, that will change from time to time as we see with the modded 744s and A380s on Qantas bookings change leading up to the day, but even last minute changes do occur, the net effect being positioning flights in the middle of the night to fix things up.
