Each individual reward leg is available, but not linked

I am trying to redeem a return flight from Melbourne to Kathmandu in J class for my husband. I can get him there no problem. The return flight is wait listed. If I look for the individual legs on the way back (Kathmandu to Singapore and Singapore to Melbourne) I can see reward seat availability. I'm not so concerned about the extra miles it will cost, but I think that means he needs to exit, collect his luggage and recheck in?

Is there anyway of linking the separate flights?

Yes, technically he would need to exit, collect luggage and recheck.
Policy is here -> https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/be/faqCategory/?category=29243&currentPageNumber=2#question-60958
Further from that link: If you are transferring/transiting through Singapore, you must ensure you are booked on a single itinerary. Read more about transiting in Singapore here.
However, it doesn’t hurt to ask at KTM airport if they’ll through check him. Remember though if they stick to their policy, and the KTM to SIN is late and he missed the next leg, that’s on him.

At check in in KTM, present your second itinerary and ask them to check the luggage in all the way. 99% they will do it so no need to exit

I wonder if the ‘you must be booked on a single itinerary’ for travel via singapore… has that been accidentally left in from covid times when you could transit SIN as long as it was one ticket?

The rest of the info seems to indicate separate tickets are just fine as long as all on SQ or SQ+partners.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

I was just about to waitlist the connecting flight, when it suddenly become available as an Advantage redemption. So no more worrying :)

There is no way Singapore will have you enter the country and re check in. I’ve not heard of anyone doing this recently, or pre Covid. I had seperate awards both ways just 3 weeks ago doing this exact thing. 0 hassles through checking in each origin point
