Earlier F flight on SQ award

Has anyone had experience changing to an earlier SQ flight at the airport when travelling on an award ticket?

I've got a first class redemption flight from SIN-SYD. There's a flight that leaves a few hours earlier with seats still for sale in F.

I'm hoping that if I get to the airport early, they might allow me to move. Perhaps I'm being overly optimistic!

Any experiences?

To specifically answer your question re changing to earlier flt on rdpt booking YES I have done this on a number of occasions in both F and J - always it has been at Transfer desk in SIN - but I have also had a number of 'Sorry no can dos' - there are certainly no guarantees. I have had changes where previously it showed no availability - but as I said no guarantees.

I assume you are referring to a R or F Saver rdpt so if you know beforehand you would prefer to change and Saver can be W/L why wouldn't you call SQ/KF and change before getting to airport? If SQ web site show 'Not Available' then you are pretty well screwed.

have been in this situation 3 times before.
twice on a paid ticket, once on award flight
all 3 times we were moved on request - asked at F check in desk - they had to call up to a duty manager to get approval
never moved from old suites to new suites (not sure if this is your situation or if it factors into play), but have moved from 777 to a380 once. the other times were old to old and new to new suites.

the award flight we had to push quite hard to get moved - initially told no as was an award redemption - a gentle reminder of our PPS solitaire status helped convince the duty manager i think

I would take CEs advice and ring SQ before getting to the airport.They are not a QF call centre so if they say they will call back after speaking to a manager they will.

Thanks all for the advice. It's a saver award fare. Seeking to move from 777 to old A380 F.

The reason for the move is that I have other family travelling on the earlier flight.

Hopefully they'll be accommodating!

I'm in a similar situation as OP.

I'm booked on an award J flight with Singapore that's KUL-SIN-MEL.

Before the flight I'm Flying with Malindo and I booked a later flight from KUL to SIN in case my flight was delayed.

If my flight is on time what's the chances of me getting on the earlier KUL to SIN flight so I can spend more time in the Singapore lounge.
