Hi guys,

I am on CX846 HKG-JFK which is scheduled to depart at 18:45, how early can I check in ?
Was hoping to check in early so I can check out a few lounges etc. It'll be my first time flying CX F and also first time in HKG.

Cheers.

If you checkin in the city (Kowloon or Hong Kong), you can even drop your bag the day before your flight.

I have arrived at HK at 7am and spent the day doing the rounds until the 4pmish flight

Hi defurax, thanks for the link. Does this mean that once you get your boarding pass you can use all the lounges in HKG, or will they prevent you from entering if it's more than 3 hours before scheduled departure?

With your BP you can go through immigration. I've never showed up at 6AM for a 11PM flight;), but I did arrive 5-6 hours before my flight. If you HLO, you could potentially print your BP 48 hours in advance and get to the airport quite early...but not sure anyone wants to stay 48 hours in a lounge :)

+1 to this.

We do it frequently as well as for connecting to flights where the wait is long (allows us to pop into town for some dumplings) on the train where we can't check in at the airport. We leave our hand luggage at HK airport storage, jump the airport train with suitcases, hop off down-town, check-in for the flight and dump our luggage then go feed. Then when we're ready, head back to the airport, collect our hand luggage, up to the lounge for a shower (or cabana) and a few glass of the Wings finest bubbles. We've never been pulled up on the 3 hr rule. Pffft just walk in like a DYKWIA diva

The nice thing with the train check-in system is most airlines are covered. Such a great system also where you need to check out of your hotel early.

Thanks all. Haha not planning to be stuck in the airport for 48 hours! But we have a midnight flight and would be good to show up in the early evening for a nice meal and lounge hop beforehand.

When I was there I planned to lounge hop. Instead went to the CX F lounge, had a great shower and meal. Figured I'd check out the QF lounge for 30 minutes prior to my flight. Wish I stayed an extra 30 minutes in the CX F lounge :)

The main reason to lounge hop through the QF lounge at HKG is to restock the Vegemite.

I have used lounges in HKG at ~7:00am when my next flight was not until ~11:00pm that night.

And you can come and go from lounges as often as you like.

Is this still the case though? I've noticed as recently as November that upon entry to the wing F lounge they stamp my BP as 'already entered. ' I'm guessing to prevent entering multiple lounges?

It's so you can return to that lounge and there is no need for them to go through the formalities again, if you leave and return. Last June's AFF lounge crawl meant we had about 6 or more stamps on our boarding passes before we eventually reached QF.

I entered 7 lounges early November and had no issue whatsoever and do remember the stamp you are referring to. I have seen that stamp before. It is on some of my boarding passes from earlier visits.

Good to know JohnK and CMA222, I wasn't sure what the stamps were for, now I know! :) I normally just stay in the Wing F the whole time I am there as unfortunately the qf hkg lounge just doesn't cut it for a WP when compared to cx f lounge!

You can actually check in for pretty much all airlines at the Central or Kowloon station check ins, doesn't have to be CX. It's just such a great service.

To be honest, I'd spend more time enjoying the city than spending all day in lounges. The Wing is worthwhile going to for a shower in a cabana, but that's about it.

I have not been a fan of the new Qantas lounge but this last trip in January I was quite impressed.

For me the food has improved remarkably since past few visits and the atmosphere in the QF lounge is much better than any of the drab CX lounges. If I have a bit of time I do not mind trying out the various lounges I can enter to see what each has to offer.

It's true, but only some airlines, including CX, will accept bags the day before (i.e more than 24 hours before departure).

So 13 out of 63 airlines accept bags the day before your flight: http://www.mtr.com.hk/archive/en/services/itci.pdf
On CX flights to the USA, checkin has to be within 24 hours of departure.
