Early check in of luggage Jetstar

In fact most are in separate terminals with different amenities (QF more premium).

I'd agree with a lot of your post but disagree with that.

I think there's only 2 or 3 in the entire Australian domestic network? (SYD and MEL and ?)

I wasn't just thinking domestic but yes you are quite right, most is objectively an exaggeration.

Most of us can only merely speculate at the commercial contracts between airlines and airports, but most of us have used airport parking.

I would suspect there would be parallels between the two - IE the airports are able to tier services to airlines just as they do parking

No way is QF paying what JQ is paying for most categories of airport services. In fact most are in separate terminals with different amenities (QF more premium).

Does the LCC terminal even have the capacity of the mainline terminals? And if for arguments sake they happened to share a terminal, does it mean JQ's share of the holding capacity is the same as QF's?

We don't regularly get to see how the sausage is made but they may legitimately be rationing a finite resource.
reflected in the QF/JQ business models and fare differential

Melbourne must have a different system because I dropped my bag off once at 2.5hrs before departure, before meeting someone in the VA lounge.

I did it once on Virgin and the bag never made it on the plane. They put it on the next one and delivered it which was great, but I assume early bags go someone else and the chance of them getting missed for the flight is high. Had the same deal with JetBlue in Boston also.

I remember Tiger didn’t do it because they had staff only rostered on for set times around the flights. I asked once and she said ‘there is no staff down there’. Sounds like a good way for a loco to lose my bag. Contract airline staff especially couldn’t care less either .

Not at MEL JQ T4. It's definitely 2 hours and has been for a long time.

It's actually been a good thing in the end. I had a look at the alternatives, and got a fantastic fare in the Virgin sale. I have Gold membership due to a Qantas status match, and there is a Virgin lounge in the terminal. Time to give the opposition a run, might become a permanent thing for that particular trip, which I do regularly to visit family.

Did you check with VA if they'll do early check in of baggage?

I will check that for sure. At least I will be prepared this time. The lounge is the main attraction for me. Don't know why I didn't think of booking Virgin before , I have always been a very loyal Qantas customer and Jetstar is their only available option on this route at this time.

When are you flying? I'm planning to be in SYD on 4 March and can try to find out for you...

There was only a Virgin lounge in that terminal, and no-one would have been aware that we could access the Qantas lounge, which was in a completely different part of the airport.

I have gone to the QF lounge when flying JQ several times in SYD and MEL. SYD really isn't that bad. MEL is a bit of a hike.

I'd agree with a lot of your post but disagree with that.

BNE is technically in a different terminal - the Common User Terminal - but that depends on whether you would class Qantas and Virgin as different terminals or if it's all one big domestic terminal. Semantics really. It's not that different to some of the LAX terminals.

Point is it can be a bit of a hike from the QF lounges to some of the JQ gates. The difference between BNE with SYD/MEL is BNE is all airside.

I have read that the Amex lounge is opening up , which I can access. Sydney Airport’s new American Express lounge is located in the ‘southern’ wing of Terminal 1, which houses gates 50-63. Does anyone know how far is this from the JQ gate in terminal 2 please ?

International Terminal across the runway?!

We recently arrived at Jetstar check in counter at Sydney domestic airport very early ( four hours before our flight). The check in counters were open , so I thought we would be able to check our luggage in and then go through to the food court area. ( Was hoping for the Qantas lounge as we have access , but that was in a totally different part of the airport). We were not allowed to check in our two cases for the flight, and had to sit at a small kiosk area for two hours, before they would let us check in. Can anyone explain what the reason for this is please ? Just so we know for the future ( not that I think we will ever fly Jetstar again).

Why couldn’t you take all your bags to the lounge, then go back to the checkin counter when it opened two hours later?
