has anyone been comped 2 or 3 years in a row?? :)
I've been short by around 100 SCs (IIRC) the past 2 years and I think for 2 out of the 3 years before that and been comped to Gold. So since qualifying in 2000 I've only made it once! They did comp me mid year when they altered the program back in 02(?)
Mind you I've had to write pleading letters the past 2 years.

D00t I've been comped to WP the last 2 years (now until Aug 2006). Last year I ended the year on 1090 SC and the year before I think around 1000. But the years prior to this I had 1700 and 1900 SC's..

dOOt, I'm the same (given Plat re-qual before reaching the hallowed 1,200 SC renewal level), but both years I'd have the average of last 2 years still over 1,200; so perhaps that was what they were looking at when they re-qualed me early both years. Hey, I just like to prove I can make it by flying the 1,200 SC's anyway...which I did the first time and will do for the second time next month (well before my 28 Feb cut-off)...

danielh, making Plat for the first time they are less likely to "bend the rules"; but once you've made it, re-qualifying is easier as they want you to retain it. If you want the benefits of F lounge access, F or J check-in and the shiny Plat card ; then you'd better get out there and earn the SC's for it. Not us that's going to get the berating and verbal abuse

(geesh, you created a rod for your own back when you told your wife about the benefits of WP status  )

I like the concept, but Lindsay - were your 5 forward flights all booked to occur before the 28th of Feb hence the whole excercise has been academic in that you were going requalify for plat anyway?

I'm OK in plat until 28th Feb 2007 but my travel is likely to taper off on the work front so I may need a well planned DONE4 late next year to keep the status up.

Yes, that's correct stuandmel - and behind my reasoning that I was going to fly them anyway...but now, I could (if I could be bothered), go and do an AA Plat Challenge for my USA/Jamaica/Canada trip.

But Lifetime Silver is my next QF hurdle and these flights will take me there. After that, well it's anybody's guess.

Lifetime Gold. You are almost half way there with a lifetime to do it.

True, but I have lack of diversification at the moment with my OW FF programs, thus have higher risk (spoken like a true Financial Planner   ).

There appear to be programs that better reward my current flying patterns and will be perfect adjuncts to my Domestic travelling (with better redemption values) and my infrequent USA/Canada travel (for upgrades).

But I at least want to lock in the "minimum" benefits of 25% extra FF points for any flights that I want to credit to my QF account in the future (irrespective of my status, that will probably be dropping off over the next few years, based on my forward outlook for flying). I've got Lifetime QC access, so have that situation sorted.

Yeah, I haven't that fall back..

I should be LT PS by end of June and then need to consider whether I start the arduos trek to LS SG or divert to another Program..

Descicions, Decisions :?

Now, who else has been comped early to SG or WP this year??

WP early renewal just happened to me. Thank you Qantas! :D

[I actually have more than enough flights coming up later this year but they were not yet booked]

Damn, haven't reached the much vaunted Lifetime Silver yet....QF and AA must have plugged the "upgraded to A class" hole that I was hoping to use, as I was only credited Economy on my AA flights...

6,842 LIfetime SC's....160 to go, then hi ho Silver, it's off to AA Platinum Challenge.

Comp status 2 years in a row?

Hi all,

On the topic of extending QF status, I am currently QF Gold but probably won't travel enough before my requalification date in July to make the 600 SCs. Last year I only made 300-odd SCs but QF graciously gave me another year (probably post May 25 related).

My question is, has anyone had their status extended 2 yrs in a row without making the threshold? I have some flights coming up that could make me AA platinum, which would get me until Feb 2007, and cover me if my QF gold was dropped.

What do you think? I like my QF status, but it would be a shame to credit all these flights to QF, get to July, and be (rightfully?) dropped back to Silver, when I could have used those flights to make AA Plat.

Or should I just spend my cash and do a DONE4 and go for QF Plat :)

Thanks for your help
James

Yes, QF have done it two years in a row to me in the past...but it was at a time that my average (over 2 years, then 3 years) was > 1,200 re-qual mark.

Hmmm, how important is QP access...which program you get the access through is probably a moot point. Unless you are seriously chasing Lifetime Silver or Gold, then they're the only reasons I'd see it as important to post your flights to your QFF account.

If your trip was a DONE4 rather than discount economy multi-sector trip, then wouldn't you easily qualify QF Gold again, perhaps even Platinum :?: ...

Of couse, a very well planned DONE4 will get you AA Plat easily (on probably the first or second flight, particularly if long haul sectors) and possibly close enough to warrant looking at qualifying for ExPlat in 2006 (100K miles flown or 100 sectors)...

Hi Lindsay, welcome back from your travels. Looking forward to the rest of the trip report.

My upcoming trips are a one-way from the US to Oz, as part of a relocation home. DONE4 is a little out of my budget right now. maybe one day.... :)

QP (and Admirals Club) access has been a big advantage of QF Gold while living here in the US, but moving back to Sydney so AA plat would get me access to the QP's just the same, as you mentioned.

I'm less than half way to lifetime silver, so thats probably not a big deal.

my average since i've been gold is probably less than 600 - about 800 to qualify first year, 200 second year (comped), 600 third year (requalified) 380 last year (comped) and about 250 so far this year.

Plus, only 60 or so SCs until my first "Loyalty Bonus". :) decisions, decisions...

thanks for your advice

james

The thing that AA Plat does not provide is AC access when flying AA domestic. QF Gold does provide that benefit. So if you are likely to be making many AA domestic flights and AC access is important, then try to maintain QF Gold.

Otherwise, a bird in the hand is better .....

From the information you've provided JamesF, I have to agree with NM, if you aren't likely to return to USA (whether work or pleasure) then QF Gold may be more useful in Australia.

thanks for the advice guys. Any flights in the US will probably be in conjunction with same day international flights, which should allow access to the AC as a plat.

sounds like its time to do some candy stealing :)

Will let you know how it all works out

With careful routing a DONE4 should get ExPlat on AA. Even easier if you're based in the northern hemisphere.

For comparison serfty and I have been playing with routings to maximise QFF SC earning. Can get over 2300 SCs, maybe even 2400 SCs (depending on some seasonal flights). Done carefully thats enough to requalify for WP twice (perhaps with an extra flight).

I was hoping that QF would give me SG status early. I have never been higher than PS but they can see that I have the flights in the system and will take me to SG in 5 weeks time.

Anyway they have re-assessed my PS status until May 2007 without actually reaching the re-qualification mark. Another complimentary voucher for QP which I can use next month. Gets me thinking, can I use it BKK even if I am flying Finnair BKK-SIN but then have a QF flight that day SIN-MEL?

April 21st, bring on SG. :D

Unless the rules have changed, the comp QC access cards don't require you to be travelling on a QF flight. Can be used at any time.
