Hi Matt and community, I am a long time QC member and reached lofty Platinum level some years ago when I was travelling frequently between NZ and Aus. My business travel has come to an end with retirement however I have a pretty reasonable tally of QFF points that I would like to protect for future use. I was earning QFF points from an ANZ Qantas branded credit card until that option was closed down just over a year ago and I have not been able to find a way to earn points other than flying - which I am being forced to do shortly just to keep my points active. I would greatly appreciate any advice from the experts in the community who have any clever ideas that I could use - a totally non required flight from Auckland to Wellington return on Jetstar so far seems to be the most cost effective option that I have available to me.

Thanks

Mike

Similar issue, do you have AmEx? Membership rewards can convert to QFF points. Other than that it's hard without flying.

Be good to see any other ideas from NZ based QFF members

Can you buy something via Qantas marketplace on the NZ site? Should be a partner selling something much cheaper than a flight.

Although there can sometimes be quite a lg on points arriving so try to buy early in your FF year.

I though BNZ had a transfer option from one of its cards.
Other than that, hire a car from Avis?
Or, if worst comes to worst, maybe buy some points.

To keep points “alive”, the QF Well-being app is a good option. Totally free and regular small points earn will keep points alive indefinitely.

There are some hacks required to get it downloaded and working OS but not sure if that’s an issue for NZ?

Welcome to Au FF
Very hard to earn QF points in NZ from non flying activity. I look after some NZ family QF ff accounts.

Is an AFF article/thread on earning QF ff points (by MattG) with non flying activities that I cannot find (Edit see below)

(a) Woolworths NZ
An AU issued WW Everyday card can transfer WW points to QF points.
The AU issued WW Everyday card can earn at Woolworths NZ. But no bonus offers. But would take a lot to earn 2000 WW Everyday points that convert to 1000 QF points. If you you buy a lot of booze, from WW NZ, may be less of issue. Only need to do once every 18 months if no other eligible activity.

(b) BNZ
This has been in New Zealand for a while. I can transfer my BNZ reward points to my Qantas account. I think it covers all bank transactions, not just credit cards.

(c) QF Marketplace NZ
JbHiFi NZ
SuperCheapAuto NZ

Edit
Are also older articles - threads

Do a deal with someone for some wine?
You aren’t after a heap of points, right, just activity to keep them alive?
Buy the cheapest QF wine item and see if anyone wants to pay you a fraction of its worth for it.
Similar can work for bulk points tbh, using some of the promos it works out at very cheap points even without the wine

thanks Syd, I attempted to install and was rejected based on Region, I guess this is what you referred to with "some hacks required", appreciate any further clarification or direction.

Are you on iOS or Android? If you're on Android, create a throwaway Gmail account, sign into the Play Store, set your region to Australia and it should work.

You can be signed into the Play Store using multiple Gmail accounts so this won't affect any of your NZ region apps.

NFI about iOS sorry.

Here’s a similar thread.

For iOS, I think you can just reset an old phone to new and set it up to the AU App Store?

If that works, then just do the quizzes for some quick points and then when you’re bored wave the phone around to rack up some “steps”. Set the daily and weekly target to the min.

I’m in the same position. Used to have the ANZ Qantas card and it was a points earner. Now all spend goes to AMEX and then to Qantas. I am always envious looking at all the credit card deals available over the ditch for easy sign on points.

I am a Galaxy/Android user and have started down this path but Google is making oh so difficult, I came very close to loosing my Gmail history thru a bit of slight carelessness. More (careful) work on this to follow
