Earning QF status credits with Finnair

I used Finnair to fly business class between Europe and Asia twice this year, Italy --> Helsinki --> Asia.

In both cases I had my QF FF number added to the booking but QF are not crediting me with points or status credits.

I put in a claim and I was told earn was "not eligible". Flights were paid with cash, not reward seats.

Does anyone know why this would be the case?

I've raised a complaint to Qantas. According to the earning table this should net me a total of 360 status credits.

What was the fare class on your booking? This is a letter such as C, D, I, J or R which should be shown on your ticket.

You can check which Finnair fare classes are eligible to earn Qantas points here:

Pretty sure all paid AY Biz fares earn (ie I don’t believe it’s possible to book a non CDIJR fare with AY code?).

So I’d perceiver with the request.

That's also my understanding, but it would still be interesting to see what fare class the OP was booked on.

Thank you for the quick feedback!

In Sept 2022 - I flew DFW to HEL with AY and was credited 140 SC for this Business Class trip. So historocally QF has credited me on AY trips. This was a third trip not mentioned in my OP.

Regarding the two 2023 trips from EU to Asia with AY - these were booked as "Business / C".

It was booked through a corporate agent, who books all of my other travel. Earning status credits has never been an issue except on these two AY flights.

When this agent books me on AA, CX, Iberian, BA I always earn status credits with Qantas.

AY/Finnair is the odd one out.

p.s. I have photos of the physical ticket which show my QFF number

You should definitely be getting points/SCs. I’ve had some not come through but usually no issue.

@Jack53229 How are you putting in your claim? It seems that the experience of some is that phoning up is pointless as the call agent doesn’t seem to know what to do and simply says it’s ineligible to get rid of the call.

It is often better to email the frequent flyer team direct, attaching all evidence, and requesting the points to be allocated.

Agree. Although it can sometimes take multiple attempts, you will have an email audit trail of evidence provided with (hopefully) QFF SR reference number to "ping"/follow-up if necessary. Saves having to tell the full story all over again to different agents @Jack53229 ...

I actually did try to email them on the following email address.

Qantas Customer Care <[email protected]>

It directed me to instead raise a customer complaint form which I also did.

Do you think I used the correct email address?

Can concur, it's taken two or three tries at times to get AY flights credited to QFF. The FF team email seems to be the most reliable / least effort to get it through.

To close the loop, after my initial email one pair of flights have been credited. Waiting for the second pair to be credited. Thank you all for helping me move forward on this one.

Hi @Jack53229 did you resolve this issue? I recently encountered a similar issue.

I purchased a full price business class return from Melbourne to Stockholm via Doha from Finnair. I used my Qantas ff to earn points for this itinerary.

The Doha-Stockholm and Stockholm-Doha flights were sold and operated by Finnair, so I was automatically credited with Qantas ff points - no problem there.

The Melbourne-Doha and Doha-Melbourne flights were sold by Finnair and operated by Qatar, so I submitted a claim for missing points with photos of the physical boarding passes that display AY 6684 (operated QR 905) and AY 6681 (operated QR 988).

Email response stated that these flights as ineligible because they are classified as "charter" or "cargo" flights... obviously this is untrue.

Phone response from an agent explained that according to the Qantas agreement with Finnair, all AY flights 6001-6999 are ineligible for QF points earning.

I am really frustrated with this outcome. Can I contest the rejected claim for missing Qantas ff points? Would I be wasting my time?

Try submitting the missing points using the QR code instead - I had this issue earlier this year and it worked when submitted with QR instead of the AY codes

That is incorrect when considered with the current Qantas Flyer Website in relation to earn on Finnair.

While there used to be caveats in on Qantas points earning on Finnair flights, with certain flight numbers being exluded, these no longer exist.

Qatar Airways is a oneworld member airline.

Thanks for your response!

The QF agents I have spoken to all insist that AY flights coded 6001-6999 are not eligible for earning Qantas points.

They acknowledged that my booking class R (business) is eligible for earning points, but they have based their decision on the flight codes AY 6684 and AY 6681 which are ineligible. This is not explained anywhere on the QF website. The agents will not budge and they will not let me escalate when I ask to speak to a supervisor. Very disappointing.

What is their response when you ask them to show you where the earning tables and/or T&Cs make any reference to these exclusions? As it stands, they're quoting a set of "mystery" exclusions that are seemingly not published anywhere.

Have you tried submitting as QR codes?

I did ask why the excluded AY flight codes are not published on the Qantas website. They responded that they have their own earning tables that they cannot share with me.

No, I haven't tried submitting with QR codes... I guess I can give it a shot. But I am not optimistic about hat since the reviews seems to focus only on the marketed/purchased flight code, not the operated flight code.
