Earning velocity points to Israel.

Hi guys,

I’m currently planning a trip to Israel for a week this coming May and I’m trying to work out the best possible way to get there whilst earning Velocity points and credits. I’ll be travelling with a couple family members who pool both points and credits to my account. The fastest seems to be SYD - AUH and then Royal Jordanian for the rest of the trip but there are a few other even better options with Qatar which obviously earn me nothing. Just trying to figure out if it’s worth chasing the points for this trip or just cut my losses and fly with a non partner airline. Anyone got any ideas?

If the pricing is similar, sure, go with the points.

Assuming you're travelling Y, any decent discount on ticket will probably be worth more than the points earnt. Although pooling obviously helps.

You could also look at connecting to CX via HKG (fly VA to HKG and earn points on that leg). But will be ticketed separately.

Apart from AUH, other option would be SQ via SIN to eg. CDG/FRA etc then backtrack on ElAl, but seems a needlessly long way to earn a few points (so may as well take EY)

Thanks mate, I shall look at the options that you have mentioned. I'm not so concerned for the points but I'm currently sitting on ~750 status credits once my credits from my London and South Africa flights come through. It'd be a good way to get closer to platinum though of course I don't want to spend many hours in transit if there are better options with non-alliance airlines. Thanks again.

Questions like these are different for everyone. I assume flying with Royal Jordanian means an extra connection? And a separate ticket?

If so I definitely wouldn't do it for the points, and you don't get much on EY with VA status besides the lounge (which is nice, but probably not worth an extra connection for). But if I needed the SC to retain Platinum, I'd do it.
