And not necessarily at destination either.Even so I predict the majority will pay the lowest fare and sit in a non reclining cramped seat.
Discretionary income will always be spent at the destination for the majority...

For me it's trying to find a balance with what we feel is value for money. I don't need a $3,300 seat when a $660 seat is just fine and I don't need a $300 hotel room when a $75 hotel room is also fine.
I reckon remove the overheads. If it does not fit under your seat it goes in the hold. Great for emergencies, boarding efficiency, no issues with alcohol. Now, if people would stop filling the overhead bins with junk, they’d be perfect.
Despite this you will find those who find the seat most uncomfortable will not pay for it - especially if there is a cheaper non bed option in another cabin on the same aircraft or on another airline. Why do you think full service airlines with Y are losing out to LCC with more cramped Y?.I think particularly of the elderly, the very tall, those with back problems. Long haul flights with no bed is not comfortable.

Its the phenomenon called Best fare of day
yeah, hand luggage in easy reach during an emergency
Not all legacy carriers are doing great, but neither are LCCs... Norwegian, WOW, Primera, struggling or bust. Legacy still has its place.
I'm 6'5" and like your son am tall at 6'5 (not super frequently, but probably average a trip every month or so on average). Rarely I do a flight that is shorter than 3 hours (MEL-PER) and long hauls mixed in - I just enjoy travelling. One gets used to it.I remember my first o/s trip with family in 2009 and that was hell - flight back to Singapore from Doha felt like eternity in a metal tube. But since then I've gotten better and better.Whilst that $600 is fine for you, I honestly wonder how many people manage to do it on long trips. My son and I are going to the USA next year, and he’s going to take the cheapest seat he can get (which at over 6’ he’ll enjoy), but I’m going to bite the bullet for PE or J. My soul would die otherwise.

Ultimately for me, you just have to accept that things aren't changing - the seat is the seat, the entertainment is the entertainment and the flight is as long as the flight is. Sounds very simple but once you accept the situation, it becomes much easier.
I'm only 5'9" and rarely have an issue with legroom but I'm big and ensure I have aisle seat or bulkhead/exit row so I don't feel cramped.Whilst that $600 is fine for you, I honestly wonder how many people manage to do it on long trips.
