EDR cuts Dick Smith Electronics from program

I've been thinking about trying out a Kindle, might just pop into my local Dick Smith's to get my last ER points.

You will get more points buying them at woolies.

Indeed, but Dick's is closer and more convenient.....hang on....I'm missing the point again.....Time for Big W!! I really do have to maximise my points earn this year.

DSE was a great earner of QFF for us, still had to keep an eye on their prices there, but for most things their price was OK. Doing many "business" purchases there for notebooks, ipads, phones, printers, HDD's and an assortment of other things was an easy way to rack up points, even better for the times where they had the 2x bonus points offer... :D

The $50 qualify spend really did not affect since most purchases was well above this, many items were purchased together to maximise the point earn. Most recent purchase of a notebook was done all with wi$h cards for the 5% discount, claiming back the GST for business use...giving a true 15% reduction on the retail price plus earning a cool ~1400 QFF in the process.

Sadly this will all come to an end in just under a months time... Will be interesting to see what happens to DSE, not earning QFF points there anymore will not turn me away from purchasing there, but I will be more focused on price and they will need to be the cheapest to earn the sale, points will still be harvested on a point per dollar card anyway, so the loss is only ~50% to what it currently is.

The real worry for DSE is that they wont be accepting wi$h cards any more, hence their prices will in effect rise by 5% on September 12th :!:

I have just found out from a contact in Woolworths Ltd.

THe everyday rewards program is being pulled from DS in preparation for the sale of Dick Smith.

By doing it now, customers won't notice any difference.

(Remember when TPG bought Myer and Fly Buys was pulled - apparently this upset customers. This way 'pain' will be now).

The excuse given that customers don't use Everyday Rewards now is just a convenient piece of meaningless nonsense!

Yes - myer and fly buys was a pain. Gotten over that one with the myer one gift cards in the mail :-)

That's for the interest free offer though.

As yet, they haven't announced what the QFF offer will be, just that one will be released.

I assume we're talking about a CC here?

I don't have a CC and can't apply for one, lack of an income, so I really do rely on EDR. Now if the offer is something I could take part in, sure I'm interested, but usually it's something to do with a minimum income and I have no chance.

You will get more points buying them at woolies.

And don't forgot to combine it with some bonus point offer.

Also you if you go to Ozbargin, they usually have a thread on kindles that are on sale at Woolies or Big W.

$20 mil sounds too little for a business of DSE's size of 325 stores, thats just over $60k per store. (even if it was loss making).

Most of the stores would be on leased land, so most of the value of the business would be in the name and whatever stock they have.

Tony Fernandes bought Air Asia for 1 Malaysian Ringgit in 2001!

There is quite a lot more to the story than the '1MYR sale price" though..& Fernandes should never take the credit for advent of Air Asia..
