I have a sneaking suspicion that if you ask TheRealTMA something about Sangiovese clones he'll be able to give you a good deal of information on that too (a comment that he made on a post of mine about Brunello di Montepulciano a few years back gave a hint of this) ;).

Might need to drink more to understand this kind of wisdom ;):D

P.S. Don't think you're off the hook.. next time I'm in PER we are engaging in the "Education of Uppy in the world of Sav Blanc :p " tasting :)

Might be sooner rather than later... could be heading over week of the 27 April... Just waiting for confirmation :)

Sounds good. I'm tied up the night of Wed 29th.

Believe it or not, after last week's tasting, I have been welcomed into Daver6's wine tasting group :D (see, QF WP, I don't always disgrace myself :p:mrgreen:) and we have a tasting that night. Theme is: reds from a road less travelled. Promises to be fun and interesting.

Otherwise I'm free Mon-Thur nights.

BTW, just catching up with the thread after spending most of the day on the beach. Gorgeous Indian summer weather after rather early rains last week and, unusually for the west coast, a nice offshore breeze blowing all day (normally a sand-blasting sea breeze hits by noon). Anyone who's seen anything of the Margaret River world championship surfing on at the moment would know that an insane swell is running. Surf is a bit cough in Perth, but the vibe on the beach is sweet-as .

I see another candidate (Daver6) for the "Education of Uppy" event.. Will hopefully get confirmation today (looks like 30th April) and maybe we can make it an official AFF event :)

Education of Uppy in Sav Blanc Appreciation - PER 30 April 2015

Hi Perth AFFers

I very much love Champagne, enjoy the flintiness of a Burgundy/Chardonnay, and appreciate a good Pinot Noir but Sav Blanc..
The nose is too floral for my liking and with all the other wonderful wines in the world I haven't bothered to think much about them...
However, I am happy to learn new things and some of our experienced AFFers have suggested that it is the type of Sav Blanc that has ruined them for me.
So next time I am in Perth (30 April 2015) I am hoping to try some Sav Blancs recommended by the brains trust of PER and if all else fails we'll just drink Champagne and meet for the first time :)

I'll leave it to the PER locals to recommend a venue but CBD would be best for me.

I'm thinking an early start of say 5:30pm as I am on the early morning flight.

Hope to see you there!

Uppy :)

I cannot make PER (:() but I can recommend 2 x SBs (neither from WA) that are the nicest I've ever tasted, if you get the opportunity. Seresin from NZ, and Shaw & Smith from Adelaide Hills. How floral they are is a personal thing, and while I don't drink much white, I could sip these rather often.

Have fun in PER, whatever you end up quaffing. :)

Thanks Tuapekastar! I think JohnM has the Shaw and Smith in his recommendations also :)
I'm sure we'll have a great time :)

I'm easily lead :D;)
Coming to PER QF WP?? Or are we keeping with our new tradition ;):p:)
By the way is my :) now a permanent ;) ??
I don't doubt that :D ;)

Wish I could, however a massive change in my business structure is underway and no planned travel at this point whilst I get neck deep in the project.

Looks like I finally found the way to keep your handle intact. Only in subject titles, AFAICS

JohnM, I took this as being the official announcement:

So a slow cooked oxtail with a pre-dinner Sauv Blanc and a main course Shiraz, is my best guess. Or just show her the town like you did for me ;)

Is 30 April definite Uppy? Where are you staying?

It's a definite but I think we have two threads running at the same time (one I created and one QF WP created)... I've PM'd and I'm sure QF WP will sort it out :)
Not sure where I am staying yet.. if the weather is nice probably the Hyatt... got the best pool in Perth :)

Are you in Steady?? At the moment we have two threads running but I'm hoping QF WP will fix it :)
