Hi all,

I am QF WP & have a trip to Europe & China in next couple of weeks in J. MEL-DXB on QF9, so no issues will get status credits as normal. Subsequent flights DXB-FCO, MXP-DXB, DXB-CAN have all been booked with EK flight number. I asked TA to rebook under QF flight number but was told no J seats available and could only book using EF flight numbers. So as I understand it will not get status credits for these flights (guess will still get FF points). Would be interested to see what options I had here. Seems strange that there are J seats available under EK flight number, but not with QF number..?? I have booked pretty late understandably, but still seems a shame that I will miss out on SC. Am I missing something here..??

Thanks

Have you checked the QF site to see if the TA is pulling your leg, or if it is actually the case?

Yeh..sorry..should have mentioned..yes did that check, and indeed only the EK flight came up

It's quite possible that EK don't release all their seats to QF for codeshare. Not much you can do except hope something opens up or change flights.

Not the ideal, but here is one, if you wan to chase up, DXB-HKG-CAN might have you earning QF SC via flying CX.
CX does fly DXB-HKG for 120 QF SC one way, HKG-CAN 30 QF SC. 150 x 2 (return) in J earns 300.
These are with CX flight numbers, no QF flight numbers either, but at the least you get QF SC.
Edit: CX also flies MXP-HKG with a CX flight number, ...

It wouldn't surprise me if flights like DXB-CAN did not have QF codeshares on them. Not all flights on either carrier are marketed/sold as codeshares. QF would have little reason to buy seats to offer as codeshares (that's how it works, at least to my understanding) on a sector such as DXB-CAN. I would have thought MXP-DXB would have one, but don't have the time to check there.

So the TA can't get you a QF J seat if there's no QF flight number (codeshare) for them to offer one.

yes, the policy under the alliance to not offer SC's on EK metal/marketed flights seems puzzling, I suspect it is QF driven to push revenue back to them rather than direct to EK.

Welcome back Pooch.

A slight correction. According to the QF calculator, HKG-CAN will only earn 20 SC's in J (30 in F).

Also remember that you'll earn fewer points on an EK flight number (to rub salt into the wound of no SCs)

Assuming there is a codeshare agreement in place for the specified flights between those particular city pairs, the operating airline will only ever release a certain number of seats to a marketing airline partner. Once these seats have all been sold by the marketing airline its code will no longer be available for the flight (even if there is still physical inventory available) and you have to purchase the flight under the operating airline code.

I had the same issue for J seats on a MEL-AKL flight, plenty of economy codeshare seats available but no business...

However after booking the Y seat, a few days later J became available on QF ( damn...)
So maybe look back in a few days?

I can confirm(at least via EF searches :) ) that QF do not codeshare on EK flights on the following city pairs:

DXB-FCO
MXP-DXB
DXB-CAN

this would explain the issue imho.

That is strange, as my parents used the QF code on a DXB-FCO leg a fortnight ago.

Weird indeed. I admit when I was unable to find a QF* on DXB-FCO and v.v. I was bemused since I was sure Rome was a codeshare route. FRA (for example) shows fine.

so maybe my list is not correct.

(I was also a bit surprised re Milan)

Yes very strange. Shrek is flying DXB-FCO in J on QF code in October. I helped with the booking myself (got the route together to feed to the TA)

Interesting...yes I have flown on the QF code share DXB-FCO 3 times in last year (QF8097 in May). Bizarre..? Re Poochie's suggestion. I looked at the CX options, unfortunately the outbound from MEL to KHG left early afternoon and can't leave that early.

Just for fun, this is the list of QF codeshare destinations out of DXB for today, at least according to EF:

ADD
ADL
AMN
ARN
BAH
BCN
BHX
BKK
BNE
BRU
CPH
DME
DMN
DUB
DUS
FRA
GLA
GVA
HAM
IST
JED
KUL
LED
LGW (surprised EK fly 380's to LGW *and* LHR!)
LHR
MAD
MAN
MCT
MEL
MUC
NBO
NCL
OSL
PER
PRG
RUH
SEZ
SIN
SYD
VIE
WAW

yes. just did a search on qf.com and a few codeshares come up on, for example, September 23rd.
These do not show in any search on EF.

so this seems to be a flaw with expertflyer, or whatever GDS they are using.

interesting.

OK so DXB-FCO v.v. is all good for codeshares at least.
same for MXP (it shows up on qf.com)

lesson: do not always trust EF timetable search!

my apologies for the inaccurate information.

I've also come across a QF code on that leg, however it was $1000 more than the EK code.
