Electronic arrivals at LAX

Took us 75 minutes to get landside and the whole process was a shambles in Los Angeles. We had 3 different long queues. Many were missing their onwards flights. Mrscove received a cross on the machine processing and so I went with her.
Wow - I have used the machines four times and, even with getting a cross the last time, have not taken more than 15 minutes Airbridge to Landside at TBIT.

It is school holidays and I had never seen so many people in the three queues. That last queue was a bad joke with about 1,000 in a line up with their bags trying to exit with two officials collecting some immigration cards. People were cutting into that line so that made the exit time longer. My previous visit took about 25 minutes so the trend was not favourable.

Has anyone used the machines with a child yet? They normally don't get fingerprinted; does that cause an issue?

The robots, errr machines can also lower themselves enough for a 120cm 8yo to be seen clearly by the camera.

A friend mentioned that I can use the machines as i have an Aus e passport.
However I see mention in here that I needed to have been to the US before on the same passport. So i can't use the machines and have to wait in the slow lines to see a person??

I have been to the US before just on my old passport which wasn't an epassport at the time

Sdtravel you won't do the electronic self service this first time. Just join the queue for manual processing. My wife got an unexplained X from the kiosk so I went with her into the general queue even though mine was ok.

Took us over an hour in June. Got the cross (as did a tonne of other people) and it just took forever. Even travelling with an American citizen didn't speed up the process.

In order to use the machines, you need to be using an e-passport from a VWP nation, entering under the VWP with an ESTA and have entered the US on that passport before since 2008.

Not for us last year.

We used it for entry (e-passports / smart gate), but my last visit was in 1988, over 27 years ago!

Can anyone that has been to HNL recently update me on the status of APCs? :)

Used the machine arriving into LAX last week - remembered to keep the fingers together - no problems, no queues and landside in ~10minutes. Very happy!

I have used the machines at TBIT,ORD and MIA.Great.
My only problem was the fingerprints.even holding fingers together didn't work well.however at MIA another helpful attendant-Sir you are pressing too hard.so just relax with fingers together-no probs.
