Hi guys,

I'm wondering if it's possible to get an Airberlin/Alitalia flight credited as an eligible sector for the purpose of upgrading from Silver to Gold?

I understand this would mean it would have to be a codeshare flight booked under a VA flight number, which the Virgin website says is possible under the 'Airline Partners' tab.

However, when I try to book flights, for example Stockholm-Berlin with Airberlin or Amsterdam-Rome with Alitalia (both on my planned upcoming European trip), I can can't find any options to book either of these flights as a VA number operating as a codeshare.

Is it possible to do so or am I wasting my time here and have to do the eligible sectors another time?

Unfortunately it won't work. The only way you can book those flights with a VA number is if they're in conjunction with a VA marketed flight.

If you flew (for example) Sydney - Abu Dhabi - Berlin/Rome on a VA ticket and the last leg was on AirBerlin or Alitalia that would count. You can't buy those legs as a stand alone though.
