Hi everyone - apologies in advance if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find many posts.

VA Gold here for the past 3 years - after switching from QF and never making status.

VA suits us well, we enjoy the lounge access, priority entry at SYD and VA have looked after me on occasions when things have not gone to plan.

We decided to change our family pooling this year and partner (who has never held elite status) will qualify for platinum in February 2019 thanks to some long haul SQ flights in premium classes we've taken this year.

After qualifying for platinum, we will probably clock up around 800 ~ 1000 SC next 12 months.

My request for advice is : would you keep family pooling in place to keep partner platinum and soft landing for me to silver (review date is Jun 2019), or should we stop family pooling and just both of us keep gold in 2019-2020. I'm keen to hear what other elite households do for strategy.

Thank you!

Every situation is different but for my wife and I it makes more sense for me to stay as a WP. Just a few more little perks like better lounges and I really enjoy the YX for myself and family.

In similar recent threads, the consensus seemed to be to keep platinum if you mostly travel together, or to both keep gold if you often travel separately.

Same here. I pool SC and points to husband and he bounces from SG-WP-SG every other year. But it pays off when we travel long haul as a family. His SC are always being topped up, which means the balance holds well over 12 months and buys us time to fulfil sectors.

It's a personal decision, but we're in the keep 2 x Gold if you don't always travel together - which we don't. We family pool to each other (as our review dates are about 6 months apart), so works well for us.
