Some better news than others this week:

oneworld - News - American, BA and Iberia make oneworld even better

6th October 2010...

Greater access to arrivals lounges

Both American Airlines and British Airways will open the doors of their Arrivals Lounges at London Heathrow, in Terminals 5 and 3, to Emerald tier cardholders in any oneworld airline frequent flyer programme landing on either airline's transatlantic flights, regardless of in which cabin they flew. To gain access, they simply need to show their frequent flyer Emerald status and boarding card from the flight on which they arrived.

Members of each airline's frequent flyer programme continue to benefit from reciprocal lounge access. Together, the three airlines have some 200 airport lounges worldwide. With their other oneworld partners, that expands to around 500 lounges globally for Emerald or Sapphire cardholders in any oneworld airline frequent flyer programme. ...
It's indicates transatlantic, but this is still an improvement.

Re: Emerald access to Arrvials lounges at LHR

This is a great extra benefit.
However it is a shame it isn't extended to all long haul flights (Asia, Africa, South America) as well as the TATL.

To ask a more specific question:

Flying QF, Discount whY as a QF WP/OWE

Would the above combination get arrivals access?

It's only transatlantic flights that grant you access as a OWE.

OWE as a whole, this may well be correct. However, in ReLoad's case, Qantas Platinum/OWE will get you Arrivals Lounge access at LHR T5 when flying BA and, I think, QF from Asia.

A couple of alternative plans:

Ok, so flying into LHR on QF 9, with a few hours to kill before a BA connection onto Copenhagen, as I have a meeting that afternoon in Copenhagen id like to shower and change prior to the shortish flight and be ready go. So i could use Which BA lounge to shower in before the connection?

OR

Alternately: Flying into LHR on QF 9 and heading straight into the office and would like to shower/change prior to going in. which lounge would I use then?

In this case, I'd try for the Arrivals Lounge based on your OWE status through QF and arrival on the Kangaroo route. If that failed, simply use the BA Galleries First Lounge before your T5 departure to CPH. Note that you will arrive at T3 so you will need to re-clear security at T5 (if you chose to leave airside to use the Arrivals Lounge which is landside).

Again, try for the Arrivals Lounge. You may wish to call BA on their Australian number 1300 767177.

If possible, though, book on BA7309 (QF9) which should ensure no problems with Arrivals Lounge access.

If it was me connecting in LHR for a flight to CPH, I would not be wasting time and effort with an arrivals lounge. To get to the arrivals lounge he needs to clear immigration and make his way to T5 landside. I recommend following "Flight Connections" to get to T5 air-side, then through security screening and to the T5 Galleries First lounge for a shower and bite to eat before departure to CPH.

Fair point, NM. However, ReLoad mentioned he has a meeting in CPH so the Arrivals Lounge might be a nice way to get his suit pressed after a long Y flight, something I don't believe they offer in the Galleries First Lounge.

Tried this two months ago. QF9 to LHR, but then SAS to CPH. Considering SAS are a QF FF partner, I thought I would be ok for either The arrival lounge or galleries before departure considering I am OWE. Tried the arrivals lounge; no access. Tried Galleries - no access. I tried to explain that because BA cancelled my flight which I was originally booked on to CPH due the BA strike, I had to fly SAS but they would not budge. Not a happy camper after 30 hours on the road.

Good luck!

Boris spatsky, what is your status with Qantas and oneworld and what was your class of travel on QF9?

I am WP with QF (so Emerald with oneworld).

BA were not interested in helping. Too many cutbacks so I am sure the staff are told to go with the cheapest option.

I flew business on QF9.

I think it is streching it a bit to say SAS are a partner. Sure you can earn points on SAS, but only between Asia and Scandinavia.

At the very least, then, you should have access to AA Arrivals Lounge in T3.

110% correct there - have used the AA Arrivals Lounge a couple of times now, flying QF metal in J - they couldn't have been more welcoming!

Although some turn their nose up at it, the AArivals lounge is decent and provides just what is needed - a friendly welcome; shower (better than the gurguling ones in T5); press service; reasonable breakfast; and it never seems crowded at all to me - maybe people give up trying to find it.

Another alternative if you have Priority Pass membership (either outright or through Amex) is the AirCanada arrival lounge at T3. It is open until 13:30.

bump !
Has anyone accessed the BA Arrivals Lounge in T5 after landing in T3 as WP/OWE flying QF J ? (Trying to fit a few more acronyms in there but I ran out of steam ;) )
I have been to the AA Lounge but never the BA Lounge and a spa treatment sounds fab after a long flight.

have done a few years ago after coming in on qf31. the flight was on the cheat sheet they had behind the counter although the computer didn't accept it. don't think spa was open at that hour.
