Emirates Business Class Seats

Family in the UK have gotten themselves into an excited state: Emirates are apparently offering business class fares from the UK to Sydney for about GBP 1,400 per person, so long as two of you are travelling.

Can anyone tell me about the seats in business class on Emirates. A quick look at their website found that they did NOT advertise either a flat bed or a level bed. Can you advise:

1. Are the seats flat ?
2. Are the seats level ?
3. Or are they more like the old-style reclining business class seats that are neither flat nor level, but simply a big reclining chair ?

I suspect (from reading their website) that their seats are somewhat better than number 3 above but that they are not flat (like QF). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

On a second issue - I understand that they are also offereing first class seats if you pay an additional GBP 700 on top of the price above. Can anyone answer the same questions as above for first class ? Once again, their website does not appear to be heavily promoting beds or flat beds.

EK 1st class looks like the market leader now; just make sure to take the A345 from DXB to Australia and not take the 777 with the old F class

Go to http://www.emirates.com/uk/index.asp , select "About Emirates" and "About our fleet"

Select the A340-500 and look at the details of the First Class and business class products

Also, note that EK has no limit on range of pick up for the limo service for 1st class passengers and will pick up from anywhere in the UK to drop off at LHR and return at the end whilst J is limited to 40 miles

vaccav just a word of warning... A lot of the discounted J and F class fares ex-Australia, require you to use the EK services via BKK/SIN (from SYD/MEL respectivley). I wouldn't be suprised if this is similar ex-London.

As well as adding a little time (approx 2.5-3hrs) the product on EK's 777 is not the same in J and F as what what you see EK advertise (345).

I'm a bit new on this forum, so bear with me please.

I have travelled Busniess from Perth to Dubai a couple of times with Emirates. I am wondering if anything *NEW* is happening in Business Class now with the opening of the new terminal 3 ?
Has Lounge access changed ?
I usually transit Dubai to fly onward.

The seats do not lie flat and the 11 odd hours flight still feels like you rode a bus on square wheels by the time you get off the flight the other end.

Mid December, I will be taking the flight again Business.
Again I will be transitting through Dubai. Hence I am very curious if anyone has anything to offer on the new terminal lounges.

As a side note, I did the trip in July and back Sept, on the Singapore Airlines A380 in Economy ! NEVER again ! I am still seeing the chiropractor for lower back problems it caused.

Is there a period of travel associated? My parents will be coming out to Oz in March and have downgraded to whY as they will need to come more frequently now that babysimpending is on his way...

Hi all,

I flew in these business class seats this week.

They are not flat, in fact far from them. They are a 'good recliner', like the AA seat you might get from NY to LON. The Qantas Business seats are flat, but on a slight, and annoying incline.

For a 14 hour flight they are OK, and in fact I slept pretty well, but they are a recliner, not a bed.

The only flat, flat business class seats that I have found are the BA ones where you 'face' the person next to you. I love those seats.

The entertainment system is fantastic, and the screen huge (but for some reason it randomly switches on when you have turned it on).

The lounge at Dubai is great - huge, good food, couchs, cafe tables/chairs, sleep lounges, powerpoints, free wifi, a lot of nice touches. When it is not too busy the staff wander around and ask you if you want them to get something for them.

All in all it is a pretty good flight from Aus to Europe.

The only flat, flat business class seats that I have found are the BA ones where you 'face' the person next to you. I love those seats.

For a point of clarity there are also CX and Skybed MkII on QF that are fully flat.

Don't forget the "new business" on SQ 777ER and 380 by far the widest J seat on the planet I think and goes flat/level/horizontal call it what you want

Yes Simongr they go horizontal.The back of the seat folds forward to go completely flat( not the seat tipping back) and this makes the length of the sleep bed a bit more than six foot. But the seats are so wide. I sat next to MiniUXb(age 2.5) to read bed time stories and we were not touching the arm rests..and I and not petite!! I will try to post a photo when I get home tonight

Yes, they are really wide, but they are also quite short compared to most J seats. The screens are also huge.

From watching the prices, I understand that February - March are the lowest prices (their lowest season) to go anywhere using Etihad or Emirates.

I have some seen EK using the 2am as price leaders when advertising in Australia. Check departure times carefully as starting a trip at 2am in the morning means the trip gets off to a tired start.

Sorry it's now morning and miniUXB has not woken up yet but here is the picture as promised. If it makes a difference it's on a 777ER LHR to SIN and it's seat 11k (front row forward cabin) IMHO the best seat in the house
