Emirates are reconfiguring 81 777-300ERs. Notably, they’re updating the outdated 2-3-2 business class to a more contemporary staggered 1-2-1 configuration, although it seems to be basically identical to the current A380 seat.

There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding first class. EK seems to be a bit tight lipped on whether the reconfigured aircraft will have the newer “game changer” seats currently only on 8 aircraft or simply the old first class seat with aesthetic upgrades…

Is that confusion simply because the PR says "refreshed" first class or has there been further indications they will only upgrade the existing F?

The aircraft they just reconfigured has the new F so I am hopeful it will be part of the regular refurbishment programme...

Nothing particularly special about the new 777 business, give me a Q Suite any day

But handy for redeeming those QFF points obtained easily/cheaply.
With a casual $2k for AUS-EUR in taxes/carrier charges (each way)...

They're only reconfiguring the new J on the Game-Changer aircraft atm, so it's unfortunately a wait and see much like the J reveal, as there was nothing really spoken about (for good reason).

EK have espoused that instead of going for fleet consistency with aircraft types (as before), they want product consistency. So in theory, they'll introduce Game-Changer on all their planes going forward, right? Personally, I doubt losing 25% of the F cabin is going to be worth it except on super premium routes.

But does that mean that the 777X is going to get the same J as these refurbed 777-300ERs? That would be disappointing to say the least...

Afaik they have explicitly said they're not installing the gamechanger F in this batch of refurbishments.

They're adding Y+ but also just refreshing Y.

But perhaps once they're done with the gamechanger 777s they might add the F as part of the next aircrafts.

I really don't know why anyone would fly Emirates. Their fares are uncompetitive and their aircraft seating is likewise. As for the co-payment on FF tickets, it makes QR look cheap. Also, the Skywards FF program is very uncompetitive.

Or am I missing something?

Their Y product on the A380 is solid, but IMO they get a huge halo effect from F on their A380s. A shower onboard seems ridiculous to the common traveller, so if they're on the same plane then they must get some benefits (is I guess what people think).

Their PE product looks decent as well though, not that you can book that with miles ofc.

If you want to fly J directly from Australia to Europe without having to split your trip somewhere in Asia, they're one of the very few options for Qantas points holders that regularly have availability.

I'd love to fly direct to Europe with EK, but am having trouble finding flights which fit this category... 😜
