If you were going to buy an economy ticket, which of these would you pick?
they are all basically the same price.

So based on comfort factor. Ability to relax, sleep.
Not that worried about food etc.

(1) Emirates.
SYD-DXB-MAD

(2) Qatar (Iberia Aircraft)
SYD-DOH-MAD

(3) Qatar (own aircraft)
SYD-DOH-MAD

(4) Etihad
SYD-AUH-MAD

While I can’t answer the question, shooting one back at you … how many are travelling & what aircraft are involved?
For example Qatar has a wee Y section upstairs at the back of their A380, with only 2 seats together against the window - with only 2 travelling, that may be a winner. For example.

Also do the connections work as well as each other?
Can you collect FF points for a scheme you’re a part of, with one of them?

Thanks. I'm not flying much these days and my points are with Qantas. Those are dimishing fast!
And not seeing many options to use points on Qantas.
Hence I though of just buying an Economy ticket this time.
(even using points there are 'charges' of about $500 anyway)

There are 2 treavelling.

Haven't got as far as checking aircraft types, but a good point!
Connection times seem to be similar.

I've not flown IB (despite being IB Gold) but for the others I'd go EK>QR>EY in Y if earning points not a consideration.
Legroom is best on EK with decent food and entertainment

Ah, well I think Qatar is in One World, so you may get Qantas points if you buy a Qatar ticket.
I don’t know this, but mebbe worth checking?

Don’t suppose you have QF status which might get you Qatar lounge access, or Emirates lounge access? [I’ve forgotten what the rules are there]

EK will at least get you QF points (and SCs if you booked under a QF codeshare).
QR would get you less points and SCs.
(Subject to fare class being an earning one)

The single IB metal daily flight is on a 332 which would probably be the worst one.

Otherwise the ME3 are pretty similar in Y offerings afaik with decent IFE offerings.

DOH and AUH are a much nicer transit experience compared to DXB especially if you don’t have lounge access.

EK Y is the best, hands down.

QR is pretty good but not as good as EK.

OP is QF LTG so would get lounge access on either EK or QR (or IB). You don't need to be on the QF codeshare with QF status, EK code is fine.

I wasn't very impressed with QR's DOH WP lounge so I'd have to imagine their SG lounge is even worse. Go for the EK DXB lounges which don't restrict by class of service.

That's a good reason why not to tie yourself to Qantas/EK/Oneworld this time. Noting your other thread, look at Turkish as suggested there.

3 leg trip with no lounge access?

You can have that!

How does the price compare if you use QF points to CGK (and back) and then buy a seperate ticket on those carriers ex CGK?

BTW, I flew the IB codeshare DOH-MAD a few weeks ago - albeit in J but 2x flying together might be better on an A330 than 3 or 4 abreast.

Certainly worth a look, though rather hoping to make it with 1 stop if possible.

If OP is LTG then Id think that makes EK or QR the choice just for the lounge access.
As others have described the EK offering for elites is superior to QRs at their hub.

Actually surprised CX wasn’t in the mix? “Day flights” between Oz / HKG and try and sleep on the longer flights to/from Europe.

Solid lounge options in HKG also.

If you have a long connection it is easy to get the metro into town at either DXB or DOH for a bit of shopping. If TK is also in the mix, I believe they have free city tours if you have a long layover but you would need an online visa assuming Aussie passport.
