I was just looking at the price difference between QF and EK for MEL-CAI and noticed the following on the EK website -

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it legit or do you have to jump through a thousand hoops to get it? Reason for asking is that the cheapest I can get a no charge/no cost refund on the QF website for exactly the same flights/same EK metal is full Flex economy at $3682.42 - whereas Saver on EK is $2398.72 - nearly $1400 cheaper? If it is legitimately offering full refund for $1400 cheaper then it becomes a no brainer...

I guess the other question is - does my QF Gold status get me lounge access or anything like that when flying on an EK ticket?

Do Emirates do status matches? :)

OK I've managed to answer some of my questions after a couple of hours of further research - but has anyone here tried cancelling an EK ticket on a cheap Y flight and received a refund without too much hastle/delay?

It seems as though EK is offering "no cost" refunds on all Y seats no matter the fare type to try to give people some confidence to book flights during the current uncertainties. In some places it mentions that taxes and service charges aren't refunded when you do this. Apparently there is more information in the fare rules but the only version I can find is the one designed for travel agents and is a gazillion pages long with all sorts of detail about how you can't book this flight to Pyongyang via Helsinki etc etc - I gave up reading it all after 20 minutes.

The good news is that my QFF Gold does get me +1 into the EK lounge in Cairo even on an EK ticket.

Im very interested to know this as well I'm flying SYD > LHR return in Y but have access to staff travel on QF so if loads look okay closer to the date I would want to cancel the EK for QF. From my limited reading it looked like you fill out this form.

I too am QF Gold so was wondering if I've booked EK ticket will get lounge access in SYD DXB and LHR

The devil will be in the detail - i.e. how long before departure can you cancel and still get a refund etc - trying to find that information is well nigh impossible it seems.

You should get Emirates lounge access with your QFF Gold card

I just spoke to Emirates call centre, the info is that bookings can be cancelled online up to 24 hours before departure with the option of a flight credit or full refund less taxes - refunds processed in 14-21 days. I can't find the info on their website however, so DYOR. This applies to flights booked before April 30 for departure before August 1st.

I recently had to cancel an EK Y ticket on behalf of my father. I completed this online and the refund was processed in no more than 14 days. Prior to this I made a couple of calls to EK and was impressed by (a) how quickly my call was connected and (b) the knowledge and helpfulness of the agent.

Agree that their call centre was efficient - I actually got caught out because they answered before I had everything in front of me that I needed to ask them about!

I called today and agree, they picked up in no time and after I gave them my booking number they informed me, if I cancelled 24hr before I would receive a FULL refund (including taxes - when I asked them to confirm that). They also let me know that I could cancel after I flew the first leg as well and get a (full) refund of the return leg. Very happy with their service!

"Paging Qantas Group CEO". "Paging Qantas Group CEO"

Though watch out for the offer of a "full" refund of the return leg. It is almost always not equal to half of the return fare.
Qantas would probably get a lot more passengers if they matched Emirates refund offer in these uncertain times - mind you their call centres can't handle what they already have so...

Does anyone know what the current status is for EK change fees?
On the website it says: For tickets issued on or after 12 October 2021 and on or before 30 April 2022 with a travel date on or before 31 August 2022 - "Your ticket will be accepted for any flight to the same destination, in the same booking class for the same fare you paid and within the same cabin, with no extra fees during this period. "

Does this mean that change fees are back now?
Seems surprising that EK is less generous than even QF ....
