Hey!

Im a gold ff with Qantas and have booked an Emirates flight departing Europe -> DBX.
Even before I had linked my QFF number, I had seat selection for almost the entire plane except all the good seats!
I have now entered my QFF number onto my booking but it
a) doesnt change seat selection options and
b) doesnt show in my QFF account like for example BA flights do.

Is there any way with the new QF/EK deal that we can use our Qantas Status to get the same preferential seating that we would normally?

Cheers!

Have you booked on the EK flight number, or the QF flight number? It sounds like you have booked on the EK code, so the answer to your question may well be: book on the QF code. It is common on codeshare flights for each airline to have its own bank of seats, and for seat allocation within those areas to be based on that airline's system.

Yep its an EK flight... I was told that I couldn't book the single IST-DBX leg under a QF flight number though...

There's more to this question than that. I have a few bookings, am a QF WP, and have noticed that even when an EK flight is booked under the QF code, I have no better or worse seat selection than a QF NB on the same flight.

They don't seem to care too much for QF seating 'rules'; I'm in the second row of Y :p

That said, when I booked my EK flight, the plane was practically empty except for the bulkhead seats and the two front groups of two seats at the back.
I am assuming due to the symmetry of the unavailable seats that these were being held rather than having people in them...
Given wingspans comments, it would seem that QF just have no priority but I would assume the EK passengers with high status would be the only ones able to pick those seats.

I recently made a booking for my partner's flight to Europe via DXB (by the way, this is the code for Dubai not DBX) on both QF and EK. I had to call EK to check on the booking status and they offered to allocate seats there and then. So it may be worthwhile calling EK and see if they can help?

I booked DXB-LCA-DXB and was able to select seats on the EK website. As (now) expected due to the different booking systems we can't expect the EK flights to appear in your QF bookings. It is a shame and something I hope they will work on.

The extra legroom seats can only be selected at check-in, so I assume that includes bulkhead seats also.

I was able to select bulkhead seats for my EK A380 flights next week and in August, so it may depend on your QF member status?

Maybe bulkhead doesnt count then, but their website did state that exit rows werent available to anyone until check in...

Im P1 & spoke to QF & they told me bulkhead (front row of whY) are reserved for EK high status flyers. Then I rang EK & they said front row of whY wasnt available until check in time & they have made a request to get me into the bulkhead seat.

Flight is in 2 weeks (PER-DXB)

That is not true.

On a380 all seats are avail except over wing exit and the 80a/k eqv.

I managed to get front and second row of Y as a non status EK pax.

Front cabin is very very quiet!

I have just booked a Classic Award for Mrs/Miss Aus ATC (Silver/Bronze). 777-300 MEL-DXB: 23DE chosen (bulkhead/bassinet) with the entire Y cabin available. A380 DXB-CDG 45BC pre-allocated, with no option to change via QF manage my bookings. Not complaining at this point...

NB here, and I was able to select any seat in Y except those flagged by Vitagen, and the numerous bassinet bulkhead seats - which made life interesting as we're a party of five (so have taken all the seats around the "blocked out" bassinet on our A380 flights). Only time will tell if that is left empty or a number of our party are shifted...

Try the "Manage Existing Bookings" on the EK website instead using the same booking reference... I was able to change my seats that way on my Classic award flights.

Thanks for the tip AIRwin. The site did not seem to allow me to book bulkhead seats, as the E and F positions are designated bassinet seats and seemingly not selectable, so I have done the next best thing and taking a chance on a 45 A/C booking! If it doesn't work out they can always ask 45B to swap!

Without status?

So it would appear Emirates is a free-for-all seating system that does not take status into consideration and does not suit my flying patterns.

I want to have a better than good chance of securing bulkhead in economy....

Not sure if its been mentioned, but seat selection on EK coded/EK metal flights is now available through QF MMB.
