Emirates Seat Selection

Not sure if its been mentioned, but seat selection on EK coded/EK metal flights is now available through QF MMB.

Yeah but the choices are absolutely horrendous even 2 weeks out I've noticed looking at Expert Flyer. The only hope is to try and get a exit seat through airport check-in, which they will even give to non-status pax. So if you're connecting from QF, I wouldn't rate that a great chance either. Another reason why the tie-up sucks.

I was auto-allocated the second row of economy, aisle seat, before you could do it on QF. No better options through EK. Didnt even think to ask about exit row at check-in unfortunately.

On a pure EK flight in Y, outside of Australia with no Skywards Status, but QFF Plat in the booking, I too was auto-allocated the second row in Y, on the aisle (exactly where I wanted to be). I was offered exit row seat on check-in, but didn't accept.

I have no status at all (unless you count Bronze).

This is an example of what I can see for a flight in two weeks as a QF Gold... I believe it's just open slather..

Is there a way you can contact EK to assign you an exit before checking-in? They say airport control, but I notice they start disappearing as soon as 24hrs opens up.

Start calling at 24 hours and be a bit pushy? I assume it cant be allocated through QF or EK MMB?

Is seat selection on EK flight available via Qantas website ? I didn't see such option.

Just to add a couple of recent experiences with seat selection not sticking. In the last month I've had two flights out of Riyadh, one connecting to QF codeshare on emirates metal (dxb-bne) and one connecting to QF2. Both times my seat selection on the qantas website didn't stick. For the QF codeshare I ended up down the back but at least in an aisle but for QF2 i went from 33J to 81B. Both times my original seating was still there on my 'manage my booking' but for some reason they didn't stick. I'm not sure if it's a general problem or just a Riyadh problem (that airport is stuck in the 70s). I have feedback into QF but haven't heard back yet.

Anyone else had similar problems?

Stark, wouldn't you want to be using the operating carriers reference number to select seats on their website.

Had a family member on the EK number flying QF. For the EK legs, the selections on the EK site stuck. For the QF flight, the QF MMB selection stuck even though she was on the EK flight number.

Oh sorry I should've been more clear, i was using EK site for EK flight numbers and QF site for QF flight numbers. On the way over the seat selections were fine, and it's why i'm kind of shocked my QF2 selection didn't stick. I'm kind of inclined to blame Riyadh airport :)
