This is a shame IMO since it removes the opportunity to fly QF metal to Nth America with a stopover in NZ, and also gifts Air NZ a monopoly on that route.

What are people's experiences of loads on this flight?

Isocrhonous,
last did this flight mid March this year. Flew in J, and all I remember is that I had a seat empty next to me both ways, but think the rest of the J cabin was pretty full.. I tend to abuse alcohol on long haul flights so am not the most reliable witness.
As for QF ditching the route, my personal ( and perhaps misguided) view is that if QF cant run at least a 747, and preferably an A380, on a given international route, then they should indeed ditch it.

I know a few people in AKL that are angry at the loss of it, but there's not much they can do. Most of them now will transit SYD rather than going NZ direct. I wouldn't be surprised to see prices go up on the direct now as a result.

Thanks for abandoning Perth. At least SQ, EK and NZ manage to find a way to service us well.

And as a result, my parents now pretty much fly EK exclusively. They also fly into more EU destinations which is handy for them (as they don't want to go to FRA or LHR, rather the south of Holland near the German border, which is serviced by EK into DUS). They mainly fly J and get top tier Emirates quite easily as a result.

I'm really not sure what QFi is thinking. Surely there's no lack of rights to fly to a lot of the destinations that are served by other airlines, and with some careful planning, they could easily compete I would have thought!

It was losing money and a LOT of it. THe loads on its own pretty much told the story - the airline couldn't keep it going - it simply didn't have enough people on it to make it worse. And Kiwis always seem to fly Air New Zealand anyway even if it is more expensive. It was a lost cause.

If you did a JASA SYD/AKL/LAX that would have set you back 96,000 points plus cash however if you fly AKL/SYD/LAX it's only 84,000 points plus cash.

Yes I did this as well. Shame it's being dropped. Obviously not a winner for qantas. I am sure if the staff bought the airline international won't be losing money

I think you still can do AKL/SYD/LAX whether or not QF25 still ops AKL/LAX direct as previously AKL/LAX was 84K plus cash for both the non-stop flight or via SYD routings.
