End of an era - B747-300

Some of us are old enough to remember a time when we looked forward to having a Dreamtime seat for a trans-Pacific flight . Back then, QF's J was as good as many other airline's F as far as seats were concerned. Perhaps we have become spoilt.

I never looked forward to the Dreamtime seat. I just accepted it and that it was a damn sight better than being in Y. I am about to do the 10 hour flight back from HNL next week in the ancient 763 Dreamtime seat with the midget screen. (the really old ones!) No great pleasure in it and at the price QF charges on this route, nothing short of a disgrace.

Even Air Canada (considered a somewhat second rate airline compared to QF) replaced their aged seats on all their 763's with flat beds (barring 3 aircraft which will soon be retired) and AVOD and in seat power in all classes. I thought the new AC seat was great for a 763 service.

As far a the 743's are concerned, good riddance!

Can I be a pain and ask someone to post those pics in the article into AFF so I can see them?

(Darn work internet filter wont allow the pics but does allow the text - go figure!)

Thanks notzac!!! Great pics.

I guess now we wait and see if anyone purchases them and/or if they get scrapped.

Here is a pic of VH-EBT on the HNL hardstand last year on it's ferry flight to RME. It was sold primarily for it's engines parts. The rest is sitting in the boneyard.

I think now it is just Nalanji Dreaming sitting at Avalon. As it is no longer airworthy I wonder what they are going to do with it. I suspect it will be broken up on-site, or has this already happened?

RIP 743's.

Much preferred them over the 767's SYD-PER and back... I think it is the novelty of flying in the upper deck on a dom flight (not the fact that they broke down quite often!)

While noisy and they spewed plenty of pollution, they were still a joy to fly in - and the crew were always fantastic!

I prefer the replacement A330's to either the 743 or the 767. Only thing I really miss is the entertainment system on the 743's

(I seem to recall that the 742's were even less reliable than the 743's toward the end of their days!)
