Call me crazy, but here I sit in the bne QP for the third evening in 3 days, and I'm very close to mental breakdown. Am I the only one who thinks ending every single boarding call with "enjoy your journey" is just the stupidest marketing idea ever thought of???
:D

I think it is only marginally better than SQ's "we wish you a pleasant flight".

Pleasant always seems such an inane word to me!

They probably don't expect you to be at the airport 3 days straight.

Also to be honest I do not pay much attention to domestic boarding announcements so they do not bother me. I think my mind is programmed to switch off as soon as the boarding announcement starts.

The one that gets me is "and a very special welcome for all our Qantas and Oneworld frequent flyers". Why not a special welcome to all passengers? DJ has started something similar recently.

..and sometimes it starts "...welcome for all our chairmans lounge, qantas...."

I always look very happy and point to myself mouthing "that's me" to the FAs.

And it doesn't happy very often. Well not to me anyway. I don't recall hearing that particular greeeting on my flights.

Had it a couple of times but mainly on the CBR route. Maybe they only do it when there is actually a CL member on board...

I recall many QP announcements ending in this rather than the new catchphrase. I had no problem with it personally. I thnk the new one sounds a little marketing oriented.

I think that you've answered your own question right there.....lol....:)

Enjoy your flight ;)

"Enjoy your journey" has been driving me crazy all day.

Had a 7 hour connection in SYD (Dom to int) and it is most annoying especially in the F lounge where announcements were already too long :)

Then there is the more casual boarding call.
I remember waiting for a helicopter at Karratha airport many years ago.
When the pilot arrived he did a quick head count and said “OK, if everyone’s here, we might as well cough* off then.”

Point 1 - agreed. Spent an hour in SYD this mornign and 4 hours in BNE this afternoon... the "enjoy your journey" call for every flight is way too corney for me.

Pojnt 2 - Never complain about spending too much time in the SYD F longe, ever!!!! How can it be anything to complain about, really?

Now that is a classic

ROFLMAO, I never hear boarding calls , zone out completely in the lounge. Had my first personal invitation to board at CDG as a student on a girls weekend. Since I've discovered the pleasures of J ( and infrequently F ) I'm usually long gone by the time they start those awful dirges ;p

Brilliant!

I have caught out...
1) AN Pilots saying "Cabin Crew arm doors and cross dress"... And
2) AN and one QF crew come around offering "headsex? Anyone for headsex?" the QF girl I gasped at and she just very quickly smiled back as my gasp became a huge laugh. Was said so discretely no one even noticed. Must have been a boring day for them.

In the 1980's I had many flights, international and domestic with Continental and was ready to kill someone if I heard the term "Proud Bird" again. All the announcements involved the Proud Bird, 'glad you could fly us with today on the proud bird', the proud bird will be landing in .... etc. Haven't flown them since.

There are lots of strange terms around. Some are just caught like a disease (listen to the PAs given by FOs...they all end exactly the same way, but there is no script as there is for the cabin crew PAs). Some just strike me as silly...i.e. QF calling people 'customers', and Virgin calling them 'guests' (which implies you didn't have to pay)...whatever happened to 'passengers'?

They exist on the radio too....pilots asking for something 'if/when available' (just ask - you won't get it if it isn't available). And why do BA always call themselves 'the Speedbird'- have they only got one? 'Make visual approach when visual' does have a specific meaning, but I always wonder if I could ask for one when not visual.
