Thats a shame - I really thought you would see them as I remember a couple of mid august trips north and so many to be seen.

Sunset tonight. We drove to Macrossan Street and parked at the beachfront for sunset. This area is renowned for crocs and for those who take a tinny out to fish, chances are they will see one. They also come and laze on the mud flat which is where I took these photos.

When we were there at the end of June that Junk and the other boats were tied up and going nowhere.

I'm glad to see some action at last

There were three out there yesterday. A steamer. The junk and a large super yacht.

This morning they have changed the menus. A lot more offerings. But I think still only one restaurant open for dinner which is way too formal for us. There is an open air restaurant by the pools which would be fabulous in the evening but it’s only open currently for breakfast.

The old menu and we could order just eggs and bacon but with mine yesterday, I had to ask for nothing special just maple syrup and bacon. $$$. The restaurant was the same. Cost for egg and bacon was $24 each.

So inadvertently we discovered that we could pay much less for egg and bacon but only because we could no longer just order that dish upfront as we didn’t want the tomato, the sausage or the mushies and we aren’t into the Hollandaise and smashed avo kind of thing.

So our order had to come completely from The Sides. Two eggs, bacon, one piece of toast. Cost - $15 compared with $24 from the other day being exactly the same. MrP with two pieces of toast came to $18.

I reckon accounts will twig to that very quickly and they will adjust their menu accordingly - maybe with a ‘specials’ flyer as these were just distributed yesterday in every room and laminated at the restaurant.

And my pancakes can be ordered just with maple syrup But cheaper than yesterday and for $21 not $24. Win some lose some. 😂

How much longer are you up for?

Are you heading to Mossman Gorge? It is well worth the look (and swim if you're up for it.. .beautiful cold fresh water...)

It's an indigenous business now.. pay to have a coach transfer from the Centre to the car park and then walk in through the rainforest. Used to be able to self-drive right up.

Tin Shed is also a great place for a sunset drink on the deck overlooking the inlet

Have you driven up to the lookout yet?

The pizzas at Rattle'n'Hum are also pretty good

If you end up back in Cairns, can highly recommend the food at Blue Marlin Bistro. It's at the Reef Fleet Terminal. (The google pin doesn't show it in the right spot... it's at the water front end of the building.) The location or menu doesn't the food justice... just looks like a standard steak, fish, chicken menu, but all the food is fresh and full of flavour. We've been eating there quite a lot lately...

We can probably check all those out except the Cairns one! Thanks m

We had spotted a wonderful area for photos on the way from Cairns to Port Douglas. The lighting was superb. No time to stop then so tonight we ventured back to find it.

Not quite as stunning but still pretty good. We had to stand right near the main road and on the cliff so a bit hairy!

I've never been there but for some reason I have a vision of Sth Africa.

We had a ginger beer at a local place then back to the hotel which is a 30 minute walk to a nice G&T. Decided to drive to the place above then back for sunset. Had a look at the Tin Hut which was packed @kevrosmith but maybe tomorrow night.

Some nice sunset shots and locals everywhere.

Drink and dinner at one of the pubs. Ordered a rump which morphed into a T Bone. It was ok. I'd had two glasses of sparking to bother. A long day in the sun and now watching AFL and streaming cricket.
